Lily and Steve in particular were starting to lose their patience. Erica still insisted on calling them nerds, despite both their constant insisting that they weren't.
After the third time, Lily snapped, "Erica! Shut up!"
Steve nodded, "Please do. Stop lumping us with them".
"Why so sensitive guys?" Robin teased, "Afraid of losing cool points to a ten year old child?" She smirked.
"No" Steve said, bluntly, "I'm just saying I don't know jack shit about Prometheus-"
"Promethium" Dustin corrected him, "Prometheus is a Greek mythological figure, but whatever. All I'm saying is, this place is probably being used to make something-"
"Or to power something" Robin suggested.
Dustin looked over at her, "Like a nuclear weapon?"
She shrugged, "Totally".
"Walking towards a nuclear weapon?" Steve frowned. He looked at Lily and raised his eyebrows, "That's great".
"But, if they're building something, why here?" Robin asked, thoughtfully, "I mean Hawkins, seriously? Of all places. At the very best, we're a toilet stop on your way to Disneyland-" She said, but as she spoke Lily, Steve and Dustin came to a halt, each having the same thought.
"Do you think the Russians know?" Dustin mumbled.
"About the Upside Down?" Lily asked, voicing the concern that has been playing on her mind for a while. Dustin nodded, "They could" He said. At this, Lily nudged Steve, "I told you" She hissed.
"So, it's connected?" Steve frowned, "How?"
"I don't know but it's-"
"Possible" The three of them said in unison.
"I'm sorry is there something you'd like to share with the class?" Came Robin's voice from ahead.
Lily snapped her head towards her and was about to say something to cover up their conversation, when the sound of radio static came from Erica's backpack. The three of them rushed back over to the others, who were knelt next to the backpack. Erica pulled out the radio.
She passed it over to Robin, who listened intently for a moment, quietly repeating the words that were coming from the radio. "It's the code" She nodded, after a while.
Lily frowned, "And what does that mean?"
"Wherever that broadcast is coming from-"
"It's close" Robin said, finishing Dustin's sentence,, "And if there's one thing we know about that signal-"
