𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐰𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 and Hawkins Middle School was barely recognisable, compared to what it usually looked like. Sirens flashed from all directions, and a large number of police, fire, and ambulance vehicles were gathered on the tarmac. Groups of people were everywhere, most of them stood safely behind the police tape that had been put up, but beyond the tape, Lily could make out a few familiar faces right by the Middle School, in the midst of everything.

She climbed out of Steve's car and took in the scene, "Who ever thought something like this could happen in a town like ours" She said, "This is completely insane".

Steve looked just as bewildered, "So, this is where the girl from the lab spoke to Will and Barbara?" He asked. They quickly ducked under the tape without being caught, following Nancy and Jonathan to the centre of the chaos.

Lily nodded, "I think so. What do you think happened?"

"I dunno, but it's definitely something bad" Steve replied.

They made their way over to the school, trying to work out what was going on. All Nancy had told them was that they needed to meet the 'others' at the Middle School. Lily was just about to ask what they were supposed to be doing, when she spotted Mr and Mrs Wheeler nearby.

"Oh, thank god" She sighed, walking over to them.

Mrs Wheeler had Nancy in a tight embrace, but as soon as she saw Lily, she held out her arm to pull her into the hug too, "Oh my, not you as well! Are you okay, darling?"

Lily nodded, "Yeah, I'm alright. I don't really know what's going on, but I'm okay" She said, lightheartedly.

"Do want me to call your mom, or I can drop you home, if you'd like?" Mrs Wheeler offered, kindly.

"No thank you, I wouldn't want to worry her, you know what she's like" Lily replied, quickly, "And she'd definitely tell my dad, and I'm already in his bad books as it is".

"Well, your secrets safe with me" Mrs Wheeler smiled.

Lily smiled back, then she caught sight of Steve, standing awkwardly by himself, so she excused herself. She made her way over to him, "I guess now isn't the best time to meet Nancy's parents" She chuckled.

"No, not exactly" He frowned, "I'll wait until my face isn't gnarly and I'm not grubby from fighting off monsters".

Just then, two boys raced past them, about thirteen or fourteen Lily presumed. One of them she recognised as a Sinclair, since the family lived along her cul de sac. The second boy, however, bared no similarity at all and ran by so fast that his cap flew off and landed by Steve's feet. The boy came to a halt and quickly raced back to get it.
