She was stood outside the library doors, watching Cindy shove her books into her bag. She tapped on the window to get her friend's attention, wanting her to hurry up. The librarian looked up at her with a scowl and gestured for her to leave, but she took no notice.
"You shouldn't irk Mrs Brown like that, she'll snap at you one day" Cindy frowned, emerging from the library.
"So? She's about as old as my grandma" Lily shrugged. She then grabbed onto Cindy's arm, "What are you doing tonight?" She asked, changing the subject completely.
Cindy looked taken aback, "Um, nothing" She said, slowly.
"Good" She grinned, "Steve's parents are out of town and he's invited us over to his house later".
"And by us, do you mean you?" Cindy corrected her.
"No, silly. I meant both of us. He's invited you too" Lily laughed, "He wants you to come so Nancy has someone there to put her at ease, cause apparently she's scared of me and doesn't like Tommy or Carol".
Cindy contemplated what she'd said for a moment, then shook her head, "I can't. I've got to write my college essay draft for the Principal. She wants it in by Friday".
Lily rolled her eyes, "It's only Tuesday, you've got plenty of time" She pointed out, "And we'll only be there for a few hours, we can leave whenever you want".
Cindy still looked reluctant, "It's not a party, is it?"
"No, it'll only be the two of us, Steve, Tommy, Carol and Nancy" Lily replied, counting the names off her fingers, "Oh, and Nancy's friend, I think" She added, carelessly.
"And what's the chance of you shutting up if I don't say yes to going?" Cindy asked, after a long pause.
"Slim to none" Lily grinned.
Cindy sighed, "Fine, I'll come. But only because I want you to shut up" She said, a small smile beginning to form.
"Whatever" Lily laughed, "And you know the drill, if Tommy or Carol say anything to you, I'll deal with it" She added, knowing this would be Cindy's main concern.
"Thanks, but I don't think they listen to you anymore".
"Well, Nancy will be there. So I bet they'll choose to pick on her instead of you" Lily remarked, "She's a new face".
