The two of them listened to her with wide eyes and when she finished speaking, Lucas leapt up and insisted they drive over to the Creel house at once. But, Lily quickly shut him down, telling him that she wanted to go to Chrissy's funeral.
Upon hearing this, Steve sat up, "It's today?"
"Apparently so" Lily shrugged, "And I can't miss it. I know going to the Creel house is important, but this is too".
Dustin, who had followed her, started to protest, "We don't have time. This is like a super important lead, we-"
"When three of your friends die within the space of a year, you'll understand" Lily snapped, "I'm going, end of".
Dustin was stumped by her comment. "Yeah, fair enough" He backtracked, looking guilty, "Don't be long though".
Lily took Steve's hand and pulled him towards the stairs, "We'll be as long as we need to be, dingus" She smarted.
As they ascended, Dustin called out, "Guys, wait!" And tossed Steve a radio, "Keep in touch" He said, "And stay away from Jason. He knows you guys know Lucas and I".
"Lily will be able to avoid Jason. She spent most of high school avoiding him" Steve said, with chuckle. This was true. Before he and Chrissy had started dating, Jason had had a crush on Lily and had asked her out several times.
According to Mrs Wheeler, the funeral was in a couple of hours, so they both had time to get ready. Fortunately, Steve managed to put together an outfit from the clothes he had scattered in various parts of Lily's room, so that saved them from having to drive to the Harrington's. Lily, on the other hand, slipped into a black dress, the one that she had worn to Billy's funeral. The dress she had worn to Cindy's was nicer, but she couldn't face wearing it. There was too much emotion attached.
"You ready?" Steve asked, zipping up her dress.
Lily tightened the ribbon holding her hair in a ponytail and nodded, "Funeral five. Let's get this over with".
For the second time that week, they were back at the cemetery. The two of them walked into the chapel, hand in hand, and took a pew towards the back. Jason and the rest of the basketball team were there and the last thing either of them wanted to do was talk to them. If Lucas was right, Jason was border-lining insanity in his search for Eddie, whom he was certain had murdered Chrissy.
