𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞'𝐬 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐨𝐧 with Lily in the back room, she wouldn't have it. She placed the flowers in a glass of water and dragged him out onto the shop floor. They exited into the food court, making straight for New York Pizza and returned with a slice of pizza each. Being a Scoops employee, Steve got a discount on all of the other places in the food court. He and Lily were forever going to and fro from the parlour on his breaks.
"God, I needed this" Lily said, sitting down at the table in the back room, where Steve spent most of his breaks at.
"It's good, right?" Steve agreed, sitting next to her.
"You're lucky you can get actual food here" Lily frowned, "All the pool has is a vending machine".
"You should just get a job here".
She shook her head, "Slinging ice cream isn't really my thing, and I think we'd get sick of each other eventually".
"No, we wouldn't" Steve retorted, but then he took a moment to think and backtracked, "Okay, we would".
Lily laughed, "Can you imagine? You already get annoyed at me here just for leaving the back room door open".
"Because it's annoying" Steve smarted, "It gets cold in here when you leave it open. Next time I come to see you at the pool, I'll make sure to leave a door open as payback. Or maybe I'll run right by the pool on purpose".
"You wouldn't dare. Not with Billy around".
"I still don't like the idea of you working with him" Steve frowned, "I don't trust him and it acts as a reminder that he beat the shit out of me. That reallyhurts my ego".
"You still looked handsome enough then for me to want to kiss you" Lily teased, ruffling his hair.
"I don't blame you, what's not to like about me, beaten up or not?" He smirked, winking badly at her.
"Please never wink again" Lily grimaced, which unsurprisingly prompted Steve to continue winking at her. "Jesus, you're such an idiot" She laughed.
"Which means you, my darling, are dating an idiot" He smiled, a playful grin beginning to emerge, "An idiot that gets you discounts on pizza, may I add".
"Speaking of idiots, when does Dustin get back from science camp?" Lily asked, "It's been four weeks hasn't it? I'm kinda starting to miss the little nerd".
