𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐭 Steve's spirits a lot, and he was almost back to his normal self once the group left the movie theatre. Lily was pleased with herself that her idea had cheered him up. It had meant she'd been able to watch Tom Cruise on the big screen for two hours, only doubling the success of the idea.

However, during the ride home Steve's mood regressed and he decided he wanted to check on Nancy, after his strange conversation with her that afternoon, which Lily had filled Tommy and Carol in on. He was already driving over to Maple Street to drop Lily off, so the others were finding it hard to persuade him not to see Nancy.

"I think she just needs space, Steve" Lily said, cautiously.

Steve frowned, "Space from what, exactly? Look, I know it sounds stupid, but I really want to see her tonight".

"I just don't understand why we're coming out here, she obviously doesn't wanna talk to you" Carol groaned, "And you could have dropped me and Tommy off first! We've passed both our neighbourhoods already".

"Yeah, have you considered that she maybe doesn't want to talk to you?" Lily suggested, trying not to sound harsh.

"That's not it" Steve answered, frowning in his rear view mirror at the two girls in the backseat.

"Really? Because no girl would ever blow off King Steve" Carol joked, and Lily bit her tongue to suppress a laugh.

"Not unless it's Andrews-" Tommy began, but Lily hit the back of his head, cutting his reply short.

"Cut it out, shithead" She scowled, "You're not funny".

Steve ignored their bickering and continued, "She was acting weird. I mean, something was definitely wrong".

"You're seriously worried about her?" Carol scoffed and when he didn't respond, she smirked, "Aw, you are! Steve has a heart!" She teased, and the others laughed.

Tommy smirked, "Oh, Stevie's in love".

"Shut up!" Steve yelled, making them all jump.

"Damn, sorry" Carol mumbled. Both girls looked at each other, not realising how bothered he actually was.

They fell silent, with the only sound coming from Lily, who was singing along to the radio, wanting to ease the atmosphere. Thankfully, they pulled up by the Wheeler's house minutes later, and Steve turned off the engine.

"So this is it?" Tommy sneered, looking up at the house, "I didn't know she was as rich as you, Lily".

"My family isn't that rich" Lily retorted, "I'm not Steve. His house has like seven bathrooms".
