"Ellie.. Hey," Maggie smiles.
Ellie leans against the cell door, "Hi."
"We were just talking about you," Glenn says, groggily.
"Did you take your medicine?" Ellie asks him.
"Only one more round to go. How are you feeling?"
"Good. Carl got me some food and I was outside."
She hated the small talk.
"Whatcha doing up here?" Maggie asks, not suspicious, just worried.
"Mm.." Ellie tries to come up with a lie, "Checking on Glenn."
Glenn's face lights up. Were they finally getting somewhere?
"I'm doing good. Great, actually," he decides, her concern for him now making him feel energized, "You wanna sit down?"
"What did you eat, Ellie?" Maggie asks, pointing to the chip bag in the young girl's hand, "Is that all?"
"Mhm," Ellie nods.
"You snacked. Not ate," Maggie laughs, "How about I go get you both some warm food? Some deer nuggets sound good?"
As Maggie leaves, Ellie takes her seat and peeks out the door until she's gone.
"I'm glad you're here," Glenn tells her, "Did uh.. Did you get that letter I left..?"
"I did," she nods, leaning back in her seat, "Do you remember anything about last night?"
Glenn hums, eyes closing. His brow furrow together as he thinks back to last night, only to find it blank.
"No.. I don't," he answers, "Why? Something wrong?"
How does Ellie sneak through this one?
"You said that my daddy had told you a story about my grandpa.. But, didn't finish it."
"The pocket watch," Glenn nods, "He told me all about it. Where it came from. Who had it. How long it's been around."
"And then you.." she sighs, "You talked about.. About Matt."
"I did?" Glenn panics.
"Well.. I brought him up. And you said that I should talk about him. Like in your letter."
Glenn relaxes.
"Yeah.. Yeah, sure thing. What did you want to talk about exactly?"
"Were you friends with Matt?"
"We.. I trusted him. I don't know if he trusted me, though."
"Why not? Did you do something bad?"
"No. At least I hope not. Matt was just.. worried."
"About?"
Glenn purses his lips, thinking his answer over carefully.
A sudden force blasts through the air, shaking the walls and making Ellie's ears pop.
"What was that?" she asks, holding her hands over her ears.
"Come here, stay close to me," Glenn says, struggling to stand.
"You can't even walk!" Ellie points out.
"It's all right.. It's all right, come on," he wraps an arm around her to tug her beside him.
Their steps were slow, Glenn's legs shaking under him the whole time. Ellie could see the frustration in his eyes at his weakened motions.
He grunts as his knees buckle and they both fall to the floor.
