"What's the difference between religion and a cult?"

"Is this a joke?" Spencer asks.

"No.. It's a question."

"I mean.. cults follow someone. Religion worships?"

"What's the difference?"

"Do you always have to ask a thousand impossible questions when we're out here?"

Ellie sighs.

"Why don't you ask your mom?" Spencer wonders.

"I don't know her stance on religion anymore. I don't want to hurt her feelings and say something mean."

Spencer shrugs. "Then, what about Glenn?"

"Glenn's cool but he can be a little ditzy sometimes. He once got jumped by a mop."

"Yeah, well, I'm still the guy that lose a shoe trying to James Bond my way out of the herd last month."

"James Bond uses grappling hooks?"

"Hell if I know."

It'd been a month since the herd came through Alexandria. A month since Noah died. A month since Deanna, the Anderson family, and so many others were killed. A month since Carl was shot. A month since Ellie kissed Anna.

"Were you the oldest?" Ellie wonders.

"I was the middle. Aiden was older. Nicholas was younger."

Spencer and Ellie struck up a friendship right after the herd.

When Ellie was going through the Monroe house, she couldn't help but think about Spencer being the last surviving member of his family. She could almost relate.

All it took was one conversation and the two were bound together like there was glue holding them there.

Spencer reminded Ellie of Sean.

It'd been a long time since Ellie really thought about Sean. They weren't super close before the fall. Sean worked a lot and Ellie was too young to fit in with him and all his older guy friends. But, it was nice to see something like that again. It made her treasure Spencer more.

Plus, she wasn't afraid of losing Spencer. He was just there. He didn't have any other friends or family. If he died, Ellie would be fine. She'd just find someone else to call a temporary friend.

But, she did understand Spencer and that's what led to them taking walks outside the walls almost every day.

Spencer hadn't found Deanna's body after the herd's damage was cleaned. She was bitten, so they knew she had to have turned and wondered off. Spencer thought he saw her the night of the herd and so Ellie started tagging along to come out with him to try and find her.

Spencer was the only person Ellie told about Hershel, Matt, Jimmy, Otis, and Patricia still being out there- possibly walkers. Things were made worse when Spencer related to how he felt about Aiden and Nicholas still being out there.

Ellie saw Nicholas' body. She didn't care at all that his body was rotting out there. Aiden, though.. he died the same day as Noah. Noah's body was still out there. Then, Ellie added another name to her list of people that didn't get a proper burial.

Ellie decided that she was tired of that. So, she started going with Spencer to find Deanna. Spencer used to keep watch and he's not a terrible shot- he's far from being Sasha, at least. But, he knew things and he was willing to teach Ellie the bit that he did.

A walker growls in the distance.

Spencer holds his arm out to stop Ellie from walking and takes his knife out.
