My fingertips ghost over Anna's face and I pout.

She was still asleep. She had bags the size of craters under her eyes. Her skin was pale yet sunburnt from the harsh weather.

I hated that I must have been the cause of most of the pain she'd been through recently.

I love Anna so much. I know that I was blinded by my anger and hurt caused by other people to pay attention to her and her needs. Yet, she stayed there. She fought for me. She didn't abandon me even when her life was at stake.

I was so lucky. And so stupid at the same time.

The girl of my dreams was devoted to me without hesitation and I took that for granted.

Anna's eyes flutter open. She gasps and I smile, though she slams her hand against my shoulder. I roll off the bed and onto the floor.

"I deserved that," I note, laying on the floor.

"Ellie?" she asks, sitting upright. "Holy shit.. what were you doing?"

"If I say I was watching you sleep would it be romantic or creepy?"

Anna sighs and scoots to the edge of the bed.

"If it helps, Carol almost knocked me out, too. I'm getting kind of used to the reactions," I add.

"When did you get here? How? I.. What?" she struggles.

Anna holds her hand out to me and helps me sit up. I rest my arms in her lap and my chin on my forearm.

"Shawshanked myself out," I explain. "That place is bullshit. I had to come home."

"The doctor said that you'd probably be out for another week or so.."

"Yeah, I was probably supposed to be dead, too. But, I still woke up and jumped out a window before they knew."

"You're so stupid, Ellie."

"I know," I grin.

Anna huffs and places her hands on either side of my face, pulling me in for a sweet kiss.

"I left a note for Carol, but I didn't tell anyone else. Josh is probably losing his shit," I admit, resting my forehead on hers.

"I should head up north a bit and call him," she says and takes out her phone. "I fucking hate carrying this thing around. But, Daryl bought it for me and I couldn't turn him down. Especially with you being out."

I pluck the device from her hands. "Yeah.. Carol used this to rat me out. Daryl bought some crutches and I couldn't not use them. But.. I'm here now. So.."

I toss the phone over my shoulder to the floor. I push myself up on Anna's knees and search for her lips again.

"No," she states, placing her finger on my lips. "I need to go call him so he knows he can chill out. He'll probably want to come home now, too."

I poke my bottom lip out sadly and Anna scoffs, pinching my lip between her fingers.

"Have you seen your mom? Hershel?"

I grasp Anna's hands, just enjoying her touch. "Mom let me in earlier. I haven't seen Green Bean, though."

"Well, while I go call my brother, how about you go reintroduce yourself to yours?"

My stomach churns with anxiety. But, I wanted nothing more than to hold Hershel. I knew he wasn't a baby anymore, far from the infant he was when I left. That only scared me more. Did he look like Mom? Glenn? A mixture of both? Obviously he wouldn't remember me, but had he heard stories? If so, then which ones?
