Ellie didn't really know if she thought anyone else from the group was alive.
She hadn't even had much process of mind to think that far. But, as Glenn wrapped her in a side hug, she wondered how many more of the others made it out.
"How'd you make it?" she asks as they settle for the night- in the middle of a tunnel.
"I have no idea," he admits and Maggie laughs, "Tara helped. Then, the others."
"You met Tara on the road?" Ellie wonders, looking to the new woman who was beside the fire.
"Mhm," he nods, "Told her what was going on. She helped me out."
Ellie hums, figuring maybe there were still good people after all. All he did was meet a stranger in the middle of nowhere and she helped. It was nice.
"Hey, I uh.. I picked up some things before i left the prison," Glenn remembers, pulling his bag closer.
"You were still there?" Maggie asks.
"Yeah. I was able to go back in and find some stuff. Supplies and all."
He unzips the duffel, sifting through the supplies, handing some over to Ellie.
Some of her journals, her favorite shirt, Hershel's bible, the things that he'd given her from the Big Lots run.
"Thanks.." she mumbles, a small smile daring to cross her lips.
"It's the least I could do," Glenn pats her shoulder.
"Least you could do for your step daughter?"
Glenn was panicking.
"She knows," Maggie says as she and Ellie chuckle.
"Oh.." Glenn blinks in surprise.
"You started it. Carl helped figure it out. Then.." Ellie trails off with a shrug.
"Well," Glenn clears his throat, "I um.. I'm glad to hear."
Ellie bites at the side of her lip for a second. "I'm gonna go to sleep. Thanks for all this, Glenn."
"Yeah, no problem, Ellie," he smiles back.
Ellie moves a bit further down, laying down on the blanket that Rosita had found. She starts to use her bag as a pillow before deciding she needed to put her stuff away first.
She opens up her bag, Matt's gun resting on top in the holster that Bob had cut an extra hole in so it would actually fit her.
She eases it out, placing the rest of her things in the bag and then puts the gun back on top. She leaves out a journal and pen, laying on her stomach to begin writing in her book.
Ellie takes the time to think about everything. Everyone.
Glenn was alive. That was something.
Herself, Maggie, Sasha, and Bob made it, too.
Maybe Beth was alive. Maybe Carl was alive. Rick. Daryl. Carol.
Maybe things would be okay after all.
She'd heard the adults talking about the next place they were going to. 'Terminus' had signs all over the railroad tracks and everyone seemed to agree on going there. The signs promised a safe haven. Ellie wasn't sure about that.
The farm was supposed to be safe. The farm was home. Then, it was all gone.
The prison was supposed to be safe. It became a new home. Now, it was gone, too.
Carl had told her stories of their camp before they met. A quarry at a park. There was a pretty lake and a big mountain. Considering the group was now with them, Ellie could figure out that that place also went away.
Ellie didn't know if any place was safe.
But, as she was able to get older and stay with her friends and family, she decides that at the very least- the people she was with was safe. Family was safe.
That night, for the first time in her life, Ellie prayed alone.
She prayed that Hershel would be happy in heaven. That he was with Annette, Shawn, Otis, Patricia, Jimmy, and Matt.
She prayed that she would live to be Hershel's age.
She prayed that Maggie and her would get along better.
She prayed that they would find Beth.
She prayed that the rest of her friends were alive and they would reunite.
She prayed for happiness. She prayed for forgiveness.
She prayed that things would get better from here.
