"Are you sure you want to go there?" mom asks for the second time.

"Carol and Morgan are going to rep Kingdom. Daryl adn Tara are there for Alexandria. Someone's gotta be there for Hilltop."

"Okay. I'll see you back at Hilltop, then," she agrees, pulling me into a hug.

"Take it easy. I know you're gonna be there for a bit. But, still, take it easy," I tell her as we hug.

"You, too. Be safe out there," she kisses my cheek. "I love you."

"Love you, mom."

Mom walks over to Jesus as Anna walks to me.

"I'm going with you," she says.

"No, no.. You should go with them."

"Ellie, Hilltop's gonna need two. And I'm not leaving you on your own."

"I'll take Josh," I decide.

"Ellie," Anna scolds.

I smile. "I trust you more than anyone. That's why I need you with my mom. You watch her and she watches you."

Anna glances over to mom and sighs.

"She's the boss lady. We gotta put her first," I remind.

"Fine," Anna huffs.

I throw an arm around her shoulders. "Thank you."

"Make it back home in one piece or I will kick your ass."

"Noted."

--

"What is that?" I point to the red stick in Tara's mouth.

"Twizzler," she answers, pointing to my weapon. "What's that?"

"Weapon. Is it candy?"

"It's rubber," Carol speaks up.

"For real?" I scrunching my nose.

"It's candy. The only candy that hasn't grown fur and fungus."

"Not worth it," I decide.

"Your loss."

"Hey," Daryl calls. "We got a friend."

We peer over the railing to see a walker heading to the metal cord.

"Shit," Tara curses. "Could that thing set it off?"

"Can I nail it from here?" I ask, taking out my gun. "More gunshots, the faster they come, right?"

"It could knock into the wire when it falls," Daryl denies.

"I got it," Morgan says, running down the stairs.

"Cover him," Carol orders.

Tara, Josh, and I point our guns to the road in case the Saviors Dwight led to us spot Morgan first.

Morgan stabs the walker with his staff just before it touches the cord. He turns and sends us a signal.

"Get down," Daryl hurries.

We crouch under the railing of the walkway as cars approach. I grip the steel bar in anticipation.

The cord rips and the cars explode.

I smile.

Once the initial blow is over, we head down the stairs to make sure none of the Saviors survived.

"It's started," Carol says.

I step back from the burnt body and look in the direction of the Sanctuary. Gunfire. The fight was officially on.
