Hours later, with shards of glass cutting her feet and all the windows in the house broken – at least the first layer that was breakable – Teresa was sitting down, with her head on her knees, unmoving.
She had been sitting like that for a while, she was without strength to fight, to look for another way out. Teresa had to admit defeat, and that it was over for her, no matter how much she exhausted herself to get out.
The door was unlocked, and so were the two metal, with a loud sound. The door was opened and then closed and everything was locked again.
Teresa made no move and didn't look up when Daniel stopped in front of the room where she was.
"Kept yourself busy while I was out?" he asks rhetorically. "Don't quite enjoy what you've done with the apartment."
"There's no way out, is there?" Teresa asks with her head still on her knees.
Daniel didn't reply and got closer to her. He crouched down, but even there, Teresa didn't look up at him. Not even when he touched her and caressed her head.
"You don't need a way out," Daniel says before standing up again.
When he returns to Teresa he grabs her arm without a world. Teresa feels cold metal against her wrist as Daniel puts the handcuff around it. Before she had time – or strength – to react, both her wrists were cuffed.
"Come, I'll clean your feet for you," Daniel offers before pulling her up. "Lean on me," he suggests and Teresa does, because she can't fight a battle she can never win.
They go to the bathroom, where Daniel makes Teresa seat at the bathtub, with her feet inside and he seats next to her, one foot in, one foot out. He washes the feet first and then gets a first aid kit. Carefully he starts taking the shards, one by one, from Teresa's foot and then he applies ointment to all of the cuts and finally wraps it all in bandages.
"All done," he says with a smile.
As if a robot receiving a command, Teresa stands up and, ignoring the pain, she walks to the bedroom, where she lays on the bed, on her side, with her back to the door.
Daniel stops at the door frame and sighs.
"Want to eat something?"
Daniel was met with silence, so he didn't insist anymore and left Teresa as she was, with her hands cuffed together, and closed the door behind him, locking it with a key from outside.
Wil Halstead had just arrived to the hospital when Jay called him.
"Hey, got any news?" he asks straight away.
"No, man. Not yet," Jay replies at the other end of the line. "Listen, are you home?"
"I just arrived at Med."
"Look, we're going to need to search the apartment for a little bit and we need you there."
"Search the apartment? Why?" Will asks slightly confused.
"We need to take a look at some things owned by Teresa."
"Let me just talk to Maggie and I'll see if she can get by without me for another hour," Will says before handing up. "Hey, Maggie!" he calls out as he gets close to her.
"Big Red, how are you doing?" Maggie asks with a sweet tone, knowing he was having a hard time because of Teresa's disappearance.
"Still hoping we can find Teresa soon."
"Never let go of hope."
"Listen, Jay and Intelligence was to search something at the apartment, and I need to be there. Can I just go for an hour and get back after? They shouldn't take long..."
"Yeah, yeah. It's fine. You do what you gotta do and we'll handle it."
"Thanks. I'll be back soon," Will affirms with a thankful smile and goes.
As he's passing the sliding doors, Connor Rhodes comes by and stops Will as they cross paths.
"Morning. Any news on Teresa?"
"No, not yet... But Intelligence has been working on it."
"Okay... Let me know if something comes up."
"I will. I just have to run home and then I'll come back."
Voight quietly looked into what Jay had suggested and since they didn't have anything else to work on, he decided to get the team up to date on the new situation. Jay was the one who spoke, actually, since he was the one who knew about the KA-BAR.
The first step now, was to get the weapon Jay believed had been used in the crime of killing several gang members.
Jay, Voight and Kim waited outside of the apartment, waiting for Will, as the rest of the unit tried to connect Teresa to the crime somehow.
Antonio, back at the district was still trying to contain his rage from the course the investigation was taking. When Jay told them his suspicious, he had to bite his tongue to not shout at him. Teresa. How could they accuse Teresa of such a thing?
"Hey, Doctor," Voight greets when Will comes out of the elevator. "Thanks for coming back."
"Anything to find Teresa," Will says as he starts opening the door. "Do you have anything specific that you are searching for?"
"So uh... Teresa, when she was in the Marines, she had her KA-BAR," Jay starts. "They say it's a Marine's best friend. I don't know if she told you about it or—"
"Yeah, of course she told me," Will interrupts. "When she brought her things from her house she also brought the KA-BAR. Said it would just cause trouble if she left it in her house without her staying there, but she wanted to know if I was okay with her bringing it here."
They all go inside the house as Will speaks.
"Why are you looking for it?"
Kim looks at Jay, since she thought it was his job – not just as brother but also Teresa's accuser – to let Will know what they were looking into now.
"Where is the knife?" Kim asks as Jay remains quiet. "I can go and get while Jay explains."
"At the top shelf on the closet in our room. You'll probably need help reaching that..." Will informs only half-focused. "Jay?" he calls out, wanting an explanation.
Voight nods at Kim and they both go the bedroom of Will Halstead and Teresa Logan. As Voight goes straight to the closet, Kim investigates the rest of the room. Opening and closing drawers quietly, trying to see if there was something suspicious.
"I think this is it," Voight says as he gets a locked, black box. "We'll confirm with the doc."
Just then they started hearing a fight in the living room.
"The hell are you talking about man?!" Will shouts.
Kim and Voight quickly get out of the room to see if they needed to control the situation. Jay had clearly been pushed by Will, as he was against the back of the couch.
"You're accusing Teresa of... of murder. What the hell?!"
"Will, we're just looking—"
"Get out. Get out of my apartment." Will says without looking at Jay. "Now!"
Jay looks at Voight, knowing it's best for them to just go for now. Voight nodded before speaking to Will.
"Is the knife in here?"
"Yes. Take it and go."
"This box has a code."
"4383. Can you go now, Sergeant?"
"Thank you," Voight says as the three Intelligence members get to the door. "We'll call you later."
"Please don't," Will says before slamming the door in their faces.
