Over the following three days, Teresa's life consisted in keeping contact with the funeral home and running to and from her childhood-house, which was now her current house.
Since she didn't have a car and would only drive the cars from the District while at work, she did several trips with Tom and Tyler and get her things from the apartment to the house.
"Are you sure you want to sell that apartment and move in with us?" Tyler asks. "I wouldn't mind living with you, but this isn't a fun house... It's rough."
"I know. I used to live here."
"Then why do you want to come back?"
"Because, despite the horrible parents I have, this is my home. And I would much rather live with you guys and have people making noise when I get home, than be alone in an apartment waiting for Toby to get back when he never will!"
"Fine. You can stay in your old room. I'll just go back and sleep in Tom's room. We used to sleep in a bunk bed anyway... I'll try and go take it out from my mom's apartment."
"Why don't you live with your mom?"
"Believe it or not, Theodor doesn't have the best taste in women." Tyler jokes. "This house is better than my mother's apartment and even though we have to sleep under the same roof as Theodor and Julia, it's the best option for us."
"At least for now, right? I mean... you will move out when you get the money, right?"
"It's hard getting the money when you don't have the right education. And you've moved back, even though you have the money."
"This is a pretty good house. It'd be better if it wasn't owned by such bad people, but..." Teresa shrugs instead of finishing her sentence.
Tom got inside the house then.
"Fam, I just found a little job for the next month, so we're on the clear for food and bills."
"What kind of job?" Tyler asks.
"Construction work, just around the block."
"Is there a spot for me?"
"No. You go and find a different one. You can find something better."
"I can help you find something." Teresa says. "What do you usually do?"
"I used to work at the diner Julia work's now."
"Why did you quit?"
"Actually... they fired me." Tyler admits.
"What did you do?"
"I punched a client."
"What did he do?" Teresa asks amused.
"He didn't give me a tip after I served him like 13 dishes. I kind of said that the food there is made from other people's leftovers and that the chef usually licked everything before sending it out."
Teresa starts laughing.
Tom and Tyler got the bunkbed they used to have when they were younger and put it in Tom's room, that would now have an extra bed. Teresa helped moving Tyler's things from one room to another and then cleaned it to start sleeping there.
That night, however, she didn't sleep there.
She knocked on Severide's door twice, and rang the bell twice as well.
"Where the hell did you go?" Severide asks as he opens the door.
He was not angry. He was furious.
