Intelligence was called to a scene Jay had responded to without the rest of the unit. Adam said he had seen Jay early in the morning at the District and that he went to get some coffee before reporting to duty officially.

Jay came out of the bulding untouched. He had shoot some shots but didn't hit anyone and said there should be more than one offenders because they couldn't have gone behind him so fast. He didn't feel like it was a mass shooting, and neither did Voight. Theresa Mattel was the only victim. She was a student at Central Chicago University.

As Voight told Jay to start pulling some footage, Teresa showed up and told them they got a witness saying they saw the female victim running inside with a kid. She hid, heard gun shot, looked up and saw the offender and ran with a kid over her shoulder.

There was no sign of the kid, so now it lead the team to believe that was a kidnapping.

Back at the district the team starts to investigate. They still didn't know who the boy kidnapped was but they figured the DOA was his nanny since that was her part-time job and she was a Biology major.

Jay shows the team the footage they had from their shooter and their shooter's ghost, scanning all the exist like he had never been there before and goes up in cover.

It looked like the offenders were just trying to get the boy and that Theresa Mattel was caught in the middle. She saw the offenders on the park and ran inside the building to be safe, but just got killed instead.

Narcotics had a bead on a crew that went after kids connected to west-side dope gangs, kidnapping them and then askign for ransom.

Soon they ID the boy as Cody Barton. Olinsky went to get the kid's mother and brought her back to the District. The woman tells Cody was with his father, Ben Barton, her ex-husband, all weekend.

Teresa and Jay go to Ben Barton's house.

They knocked and announce they were CPD but there was no answer so they went in.

With guns in hand they start looking inside the house.

"Keys and cell phone are on the table." Teresa points out.

On top of the kitchen island was a cardboard box, with a bloody t-shirt inside.

"Oh, God." Teresa says when she sees a ear, most likely belonging to Cody.

Antonio got a CI to talk about a case that looked similar, where his nephew was kidnapped and his brother recived a cardboard box with a sliced finger inside. The CI told what had happened to his nephew and everything the crew had asked for his brother to do in order to get the kid back.

Antonio did a little investigation and got a primary suspect: Luis Vega, 28. Was a Ranger in the 1st Battalion.

Teresa looks at Jay, but Jay keeps his eyes on Antonio and the board filled with information.

Luis had a injury, his forearm burned. After he got out he spent 3 months in South America on contract as security.

"AKA he did kidnapping and ransoms." Jay concludes.

Height and weight match one of the guys that took Cody to a T.

"Okay, but what's the plan, though?" Jay asks. "'Cause we can't grab him up on what we got,
and odds of him talking are not good. Plus if we spook the crew, we could get this kid killed."

"Well, that's why we get eyes on Luis right away." Voight says calmly.

"Or you put me under." Jay quickly suggests. "He was a Ranger. We served at the same time.
I can connect with him."
