On her second and third day the case was still the restaurant arson. Teresa was staying at the District while the rest of the team was outside following clues and the suspects. She hadn't had time to connect with the team well either and since she wasn't involved in the case they were working on, they didn't talk to her other then a 'hi' or a 'bye'.
On the third day the team came in the afternoon and Voight stopped at Teresa's desk.
"We got him." He announces.
"You do? For sure?"
"Yeah. He confessed when he pressured him."
"Who's the guy? Why did he do it?"
"Former employee. He got fired and decided to get a little revenge of his own."
"I almost died because some dude got fired from waiting tables?" Teresa asks in disbelieves. "People are messed up."
"Yes, they are." Voight agrees.
The first case Teresa got was a hard one. Three kids had gone missing in the last month at South Side. The first who went missing was found dead a few hours after the third one was last seen. Intelligence was taking over the case, since it went from missing kids to murder.
"I used to play in those streets." Teresa admits as Voight points out where each of the three boys were last seen. "Whenever I actually had time to play..."
"Jay, Teresa. You go meet our witnesses, get their statements. I want you to talk with their families, people who might have seen what happened and the ones that found the dead kid."
"Okay." The both agree to the job.
"I have a list here." Voigt says handing a paper to Jay. "Burgess and Antonio can help you."
"We'll take the first half." Jay affirms as the four head out of the district.
Teresa rides shotgun with Jay as they head to the home of the dead kid's parents. She recognizes most of the houses there are on they way, she knew some of the people who used to live on those houses, and probably still did. When she passes by her own childhood house she looks away, afraid she'd see her mother.
After interviewing the heartbroken parents of the 6-year old boy they live the house and go to the location where kid's body was found.
"Something bothering you?" Jay asks not very compassionately.
"Other than a dead kid? No, everything's perfect." Teresa asks sarcastically.
"You said you used to play in these streets... so you grew up at South Side?"
"Yeah. Born and raised. Well... barely raised but you get the idea."
"You knew the family?"
"No, not this one."
"This one?"
"Do you know how many kids have gone missing at South Side in the past? I never saw police doing anything about it."
"Are there a lot of unsolved cases here?" Jay asks curious.
"Let me show you something." Teresa says walking away from the scene.
Jay follows her and they walk to a nearby house. Teresa knows twice and waits until a woman opens the door. It was morning so Teresa knew she'd be home since the bar she owned only opened in the afternoon.
"Son of a gun." The woman says slowly when she sees Teresa, then pulling her into a hug. "When did you came back? What the hell."
"Sorry, Sarah."
