Claire's POV
Today is the day Zealand and Haven meet Nolan. Nolan and I have been dating for about 3 months now and we thought it was time. I am super nervous, I had a feeling they weren't gonna like him... Especially Zealand. He misses his daddy, I was hoping may be Nolan could fill a hole in his heart, but nobody can replace Ezra.
Nolan was going to come over to our house. I texted him the address and told the kids they were going to meet someone special so that maybe they would get excited, but they didn't really do anything different than they usually do.
I got them dressed and ready for Nolan to come over. It was about 3:30 when Nolan arrived and he knocked on the door. Haven is like a little dog who runs to the door and just stands there before I get there.
I open the door and Nolan comes in and smiles at Haven who was now hiding behind my leg. She's very shy unlike how Zealand was as a baby. I laugh and pick her up. Zealand comes to the door too and stops when he sees Nolan
"Who are you?" Zealand asks him and Nolan bends down to him
"I'm Nolan" he says and Zealand looks up at me
"Is he the surprise?" He asks me and I laugh
"Yes, Zealand, Haven, meet my boyfriend Nolan" I introduce him and Zealand hides behind my leg like Haven did and Nolan just stands there as they just stare at him.
"I can feel the love" Nolan jokes and I smile awkwardly
"Sorry, they're always like this around new people" I tell him and he nods
"Its ok, they're just kids, it's fine" he says and smiles at Haven "hey pretty girl" he says and tickles her belly lightly, she kinda smiles, but no giggles "tough crowd" he says and bends down to Zealand again "hey little dude" Nolan smiles and Zealand just hides behind my leg and just stares at him
"Zealand, don't be rude, say hi to Nolan" I tell him and he hugs my leg tighter
"Hi" he says quietly and Nolan puts his hand out, expecting a fist bump, but Zealand shakes his head, so he puts his hand down
"Have you started school yet?" Nolan asks and Zealand nods "is it fun?" Nolan asks and Zealand nods again "that's good" Nolan says and stands up "well, they seem like a ton of fun" Nolan says sarcastically and I put my head down
"I'm sorry, guess they aren't a fan of guys ever since their daddy died" I tell him and he shrugs
"Nah, it's ok, I get it, they'll warm up to me eventually" he says. He's so positive which is so cool
"I hope so" I say and Nolan kisses my cheek
"They will" he smiles at me and I nod and smile back.
After a while, we sit down and Zealand starts playing with his dinosaurs again and Haven plays with her toys and watches TV. Nolan sits on the floor and starts playing with Zealand, but Zealand was still cautious and looked uncomfortable, so I sit down and start playing too. Zealand liked it when I played with him, so he lightened up and starting playing again.
Nolan would pick up some of his dinosaurs and ask Zealand what kind of dinosaur it was and Zealand would tell him the answer and Nolan would joke and pretend like he couldn't pronounce it, making Zealand smile and eventually laugh. Nolan was very good with him and very funny, so I wasn't really surprised Zealand liked him.
Nolan stayed over for dinner and even helped me set the table. We sat down and Nolan helped me feed Haven and I got Zealand's plate ready. We ate and talked and Nolan was hoping to build Haven's trust by making her laugh, so every time Haven took a bite, he would make silly faces and she would only smile. Nolan tried the airplane method and she would giggle and squeal, but no laughs.
After dinner, Nolan got ready to leave. He put his jacket on and Zealand ran over to us and waved to Nolan and even have him a hug, making my heart melt. Haven ran over to him too and gave him a small hug
"Sorry I couldn't make you laugh, munchkin" he says and Haven just hugs him and looks at him. He tries one more time and blows raspberries on her tummy and she laughs finally. Nolan smiles "would you look at that" he says, looking at me and I smile
"You did it, you made both of my kids laugh in one day" I say and he celebrates by throwing Haven up in the air, who laughs and giggles her little heart out.
