Chapter 6: Living A Double Life

“After a very eventful night, Ava finally opens her eyes. She then turns towards Kai and realizes that he was awake, “I’m sorry” they both say simultaneously, they both let out a small laugh. “What I did yesterday was petty and unnecessary” Ava confesses, “Apology accepted; it was a pretty smart revenge”. “I know”, Ava slowly got up and got in the bathroom. After a couple of minutes, she got out of the bathroom and began searching for an outfit out of her closet. She got out an outfit and then put it on.

She then turns around towards the bed but doesn't see Kai, she turns back around to the closet and Kai startles her.

“Kai what the fuck!? You almost gave me a heart attack” Ava shrieked, “Sorry but damn, what's for breakfast cuz I'm tryna have you on my plate. You look beautiful, baby” Kai declared. “Thanks, but why aren’t you getting ready?”, “Ready for what?” Kai questioned. “Dinner? With your parents” Ava replied, “Oh shit, that was today?”. “Yup, I thought you'd be the one to remember since they're your parents” Ava said, “Yeah I just forgot”. “Okay well get ready, we leave in a couple of minutes”, “Yes, Ma’am” Kai saluted.

After a couple of minutes, Ava and Kai made their way downstairs and saw Leslie watching tv while stuffing her mouth with popcorn. “Well Good Morning LoveBirds” she said with her mouth full, “Good Morning, Leslie” Ava spoke. “ So you’re just gonna sit there in front of the tv and night? Why don't you go do something, get drunk, and howl at the moon” Ava suggested, “Well, I do have another date tonight with Jay” Leslie said.

“Wow, as if the other day wasn't traumatizing enough for him” Kai commented, “Shut up” Leslie threw a handful of popcorn at Kai. “Wow,  that's good for you Leslie, I'm happy for you” Ava uttered, “Thanks, I think we're serious about each other” Leslie mentioned, “That’s good”.

“I don't see that relationship lasting long” Kai muttered, “Bro shut up, that's why you're built like a Wii console”. “I know you’re not talking, Leslie. That's why you built like a fucking game cube” Kai argued. “Enough you two” Ava grabs Kai hand and says “come on let's go”, Ava and Kai left the house and were on their way. After a while of driving, they finally arrive. “Well here goes nothing”, “Yeah” Ava answered. “Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll love you as much as I do” Kai Reassured, “Thanks, babe”. Ava and Kai enter the house, “Mom? Dad, I'm Here” Kai announced. After a couple of footsteps, they are joined by Kai's parents, “Hey, Ava this is my mom Argo, and this is my dad Sergei”, Ava extends her hand and says “Hi, it's very nice to meet you guys!”. Argo shakes Ava’s hand then says “It's nice to meet you too, thank you for coming, you look so beautiful!”.

“Thank you” Ava returns, “Wow, Kai, you really outdid yourself this time. You keep this girl close and don't let her go” Sergei said. “Oh believe me, I won’t” Kai replied, “Okay, let’s eat!” Sergei spoke. They gathered around the table and instantly they made great conversations, “All the other babies were walking but not Kai, Argo kept saying ‘he'll walk when he has someone to walk to’” Sergei verbalized. “Clearly I was right” Argo stated, everyone let out a subtle laugh. “So Ava, What are you studying in college?” Argo questions, “Well, I'm studying to be an Orthodontist” Ava responded. “That’s a great choice, I’m sure you’ll be very successful”, “Thank you” Ava replied. “Well it's getting late, babe we should get home before traffic gets worse” Kai announced, “Mhm”. Everyone got up and said their goodbyes as Ava and Kai left. A couple of minutes went by, Ava and Kai were still in traffic, just vibing to music and singing.

“Damn, I didn't expect the traffic to be this bad” Kai said, “Yeah, Moses must have parted the roads with his staff or something” Ava jokes. After a couple of minutes, the traffic starts to clear up, “Finally” Kai stressed, “yeah, we can finally g- KAI LOOK OUT!” Suddenly a black car pulled up In Front of them and some men in black jumped out of the vehicle and pointed guns at them.

“What the fuck?” Ava exclaimed, “Ava get down!”. Kai pulls a gun out of the glove compartment and starts to fire at the men. After a couple of rounds of shots, the men started to retreat. It got silent after a couple of seconds. “Are they gone?’ Ava whispered, “Yeah, I think so”. “Okay. What the hell just happened, why were those shady ass men firing shots at us!?”, “I’ll explain when we get home,” Kai replied.They drove off and after what seemed to be forever, they finally arrived home. They quickly hopped out of the car and into the house. There Leslie was still watching tv.

Leslie looks towards the door then says “Damn, what's wrong? you guys look like you've seen a ghost”, “We were just attacked by men in black suits” Ava explains. “Wait what!? Are you guys ok?”, “Yeah”, “For now” Kai says. “What do you mean for now?” Ava interrogates, “Just come upstairs” Kai replied. Ava and Kai ran upstairs and into their room, “Ok what's going on? you seem to know about the people who attacked us”. “They were after you” Kai muttered, “Me, why me?” Ava asks. “Because they want to hurt me, and the only way to do that is through you”, “Who are ‘They’?”. “The League Of Solstice”.

 is The League of Solstice?”, “The League of Solstice is a skilled group of assassins who carry out the commands of their leader, Pydris Strera otherwise known as Ludriel: The son Of Death” Kai explained. “Okay, why would they want to hurt you?” Ava queries, “Because I serve a man named Celino Lani, known as Ho'zeah Ghul, leader of The League of Anarchy. I’m their Underboss” Kai revealed. Ava then takes a seat at the edge of their bed, “I know it’s a lot to take in”, “Yeah no shit. How long has this been going on” she asks, “For about 2 years” Kai admits. “2 YEARS! and you're just telling me this now!”, “I'm sorry, I wanted to tell you before, but I couldn't,” Kai spoke. “Why?”, “Because if I told anyone I would've broken the Obez'yana”.

“The Obez what?” Ava questioned, “Obez'yana means Locked Tongue, basically you can't tell anyone about the league, if the obez'yana is broken the punishment is death by a hundred cuts” Kai responded. “Wait…since you told me this, doesn't it mean you're gonna die?” Ava asked, “Yes, but there is one thing that we could do to guarantee our safety and that doesn't include me or you dying”.

“What?”, “You join the League of Anarchy” Kai claimed. “What!? I-I can't, I can't fight or anything, I can't even run in a straight line” Ava explains. “That's why you have to let me train you, you need to learn how to protect yourself in case I'm not there” Kai suggested, “Train me!? No offense but my life isn't a Men in Black movie” Ava jokes.

“Ava, I'm serious, you need to do this or lose your life, I don't wanna lose you” Kai expressed, “I can't believe I'm asking this but what do I need to do to join?” Ava inquired. “To join The League you have to complete a ritual”, “A ritual? This is starting to sound like a fucking cult”.

“Haha, you just need to do one thing, you need to get obez'yana tattoo on your body” Kai spoke, “Ok we've officially stepped into crazy town, a tattoo!?”. Yes, I already have mine” Kai lifts his shirt and shows Ava the tattoo on his ab. “I knew that word sounded familiar, I thought you said it meant family?” Ava questioned. “Well, I lied”.

“So much for hating lies. Oh shit’, “What?”/ “What about Leslie?” Ava asked, “She'll be fine, I already have a plan for that” Kai and Ava go downstairs and start explaining some stuff to Leslie. “So, let me get this straight, you guys are going on a vacation for a while and leaving this house under my watch?”  Leslie questioned, “Yes” Kai answered.

“YAY! This is gonna be so much fun, I'll throw a party and do whatever the hell I want without you constantly nagging me” Leslie exclaimed, “No, the fuck you’re not, you won't be alone. I'll be sending one of my friends over to stay with you because I don't trust you with my house or my couch” Kai announced. “You're gonna let me live with some stranger in your house? ALONE! What if he rapes me or something?” Leslie, concerned, “I doubt that he doesn't like rented pussy” Kai retorted.

“Shut up you bitch of a man”, “Ok now that that's established, come on Ava we have to pack, we leave tomorrow morning” Kai spoke, “Okay” Ava responded. Kai and Ava headed to their room and started packing their stuff, “I can't believe this is our life now” Ava sighed. “Me neither, I never wanted you to be included in this type of life, I wanted you far away from it” Kai explained. “Yeah, whatever happens, we stay together and protect each other's backs” Ava declared, “I couldn't have said it better myself”. Ava and Kai hop in the bed and cuddle together, “I love you, Kai”, “I love you too, Ava”. They slowly drift off to sleep at the sound of their heartbeat moving in the same rhythm.
