Chapter 69: Purgatory

Ava opened her eyes to the sound of chattering down the stairs, she looked to her right and realized that Kai wasn't there. She put on a robe and walked out the doors, she looked down the balcony on the steps and saw Kai, Leslie, Luke, and Mazikeen talking in the living room, she then made eye contact with Kai. "Hey princess, I was just about to come to wake you" Kai says, "Good Morning" Ava sluggishly walked down the stairs and then took a seat at Kai's side. "We were just discussing a plan on how we're going to retrieve the key; Mazikeen was just looping us in on all the things we could face while we're in Purgatory", "Like what?" Ava asks."Demons, lost souls, Leviathans, shapeshifters, and more" Mazikeen answered, "Just great, when do you guys think we should go?". "We were thinking today maybe? Since Marcaida hasn't made any moves yet, we should use that time and get what we need so we'll be ready for him" Kai says, "Okay, I'm in" Ava agrees. "Great, let's get this done before lunch" Mazikeen says, "Wait give us some time to gather some weapons and stuff" Luke says. "None of those guns are gonna protect you from anything down there but if you feel like you need them, then knock yourselves out, however, if you load them with salt, you could do some serious damage, holy water even works" Mazikeen warns, "Great, let me just call Jesus and ask him for some like where the hell are we supposed to get holy water!?" Leslie asks. "I guess we'll just go without it" Kai says, Everyone except Mazikeen left the living to get ready, Ava took a quick shower and then looked through her closet, after a couple of seconds of contemplating, she decided to wear a black leather crop top with a black leather blazer followed by a black leather skirt that hugged her curves perfectly and a pair of black boots. She turned around and saw that Kai was loading some guns with salt, she also saw a gun on the table that she wasn't familiar with."The hell type of gun is that?" Ava asks, "It's a Colt Paterson 1836, I borrowed it from 2 guys, what were their names again? Ken and Jim? Lam and jean? Ah yes now I remember, their names were Sam and Dean" Kai replies. "Cool, are you ready to go?", "Yeah" Ava and Kai made their way downstairs and saw that Leslie, Luke, and Mazikeen were prepared. "Okay now that everyone's ready, what do we do? Do we click our heels 3 times or drop a coin down a well?" Leslie questioned."We use the card that Lucifer gave us, everyone hold onto me" Everyone did as Kai said and held on to him, Kai gave the card a shake and after a couple of seconds it began to glow, the light grew brighter by the second until it was too bright for them to keep their eyes open. Everyone closed their eyes and after a couple of seconds they could feel a change in the atmosphere, Ava opened her eyes and she was shocked. "Guys look", Everyone opened their eyes and pulled apart from each other, they realized that they were in a dull gray forest with gray skies, alongside the forest was a river that flowed down. "This is purgatory?" Luke asks, "More or less, come on let go before something finds us" Mazikeen replies. Everyone followed Mazikeen's lead and began walking up the stream. They've been walking for a while now and haven't seen anything, "You sure we're going to the right place Mazikeen?" Leslie asks, "Yeah trust me, I've been here a million times just-" Suddenly everyone heard something snap, they all looked around but saw nothing, suddenly they saw a dark shadow figure racing towards them, Kai quickly pulled out the colt and shot the shadow but it didn't stop."The British are coming, run!" Leslie shouts, Everyone begins running up the river without looking back, after running for a while Mazikeen looked back and realized that the shadow was gone. "It's gone, we can stop now" she says, "Everyone stopped and caught their breath, Luke approached the river to go get a drink but was quickly stopped by Mazikeen."If the water doesn't kill you then something will pull you in and finish the job" She warns, "Just great" Luke sighed. After resting for a couple of seconds they continued to make their way up the stream until they looked across the river and saw what seemed to be a Hut. "How are we supposed to get to the other side?" Ava asks, "Like this, Clariid" Kai casted Suddenly they all were teleported to the other side of the river, but they weren't alone, something else teleported with them, they all turned around and saw the same shadow figure from earlier, Ava aimed her gun at the figure but then the black mist disappeared from the figure only to reveal Ermani. "Ermani?" Kai asks, "Hey Kai". Kai rushed over to Armani and gave him a tight hug, small amounts of tears began falling from his eyes. "Fuck man, I thought we lost you, I'm so sorry I didn't realize soon I-", "Kai it's fine, I'm fine" Ermani says. "How long have you been here?" Leslie asks, "When we were getting ready to leave Mafriash, I went for a walk when I saw Garai, I was about to call for help but he hit me over the head with something, then I woke up here". "That was 12 days ago" Ava says, "It felt longer than that, it felt like-"."An Eternity, in purgatory time goes by slowly, seconds feel like days, and minutes feel like months" Mazikeen says, "Exactly, Is Marcy, okay?" Ermani asks. "Yeah, she's doing the best she can" Ava says, "How did you survive for so long?" Luke questioned. "A guy, his name is Bobby. He helped me learn how to" Ermani says, "How did you dodge that bullet back there?" Leslie asks. "The mist protected me", "Okay enough with the family reunion, we really should get a move on before something actually tries to kill us" Mazikeen suggests. They all packed up the conversation and continued to advance closer to the hut. Mazikeen approached the door and slowly opened it while the others had their gun out and ready to fire. They slowly enter the room only to realize that it was empty, the only thing in there was a trap door on the ground. "We gotta see what's down there" Mazikeen said, "I guess we're gonna be like those dumb people in movies that open creepy-ass doors" Leslie says. "I guess so" Ava uttered, Mazikeen took the lead and grabbed onto the little latch on the door, she gave everyone a nod before slowly pulling the door open. As soon as the door was fully opened, everyone pointed their guns towards it but only to be disappointed by a flight of stairs. Mazikeen walked down the stairs with precaution while the others stayed above, she stepped from the last step and then looked up."Guys, get down here", Everyone made their way down the stairs and then set their eyes on the same thing. Mazikeen the environment was similar to a prison, it had cells on both left and right sides of the room but at the end of the hall was a box. It was clear that everyone was on edge because no one took a step further, Leslie then pushed Kai forward causing Kai to shoot her a quick annoyed look. Kai raised his gun and proceeded to walk towards the box, as they were about to walk past the first cell suddenly a pair of hands peek from the darkness of the cell, trying to grab Kai, this startled everyone and caused them all to release a yelp. I guess the yelp awakened whatever was in the cells because they then saw more pairs of hands coming from the other cells. Suddenly everyone could hear voices coming from the cells saying, "Please help me" and "Get us out of here", the voices began overlapping over each other and growing louder. "What the hell are these?" Ava queried, "Souls" Mazikeen says. "Okay, I'll go check what's in that box while the rest of you stay here" Kai says, "The hell you are! it's too dangerous" Ava argued. "This is not up for debate, it'll be faster if I go", "Oh, for fucks sake". Mazikeen took the gun out of Kai's hand and sprinted to the end of the hall, avoiding all the hands. Mazikeen realized that the box had a lock, so she aimed the gun and fired at the lock, after a second bullet the box flew open, and inside held a key. Mazikeen snatched the key and ran past the cells once more avoiding the hands. "Let's get the hell out of here now" Mazikeen says, No one hesitated at those words because they all sprinted up the stairs without looking back, everyone ran out of the hut and stood before the river. "Clariid", Everyone was teleported back to the other side of the river, they began running down the stream. "Is it me or was that a little too easy?" Ermani questions, "Yeah, now that you mention it-" All of a sudden everyone felt the ground beneath them shake which caused them to stop dead in their tracks, the shaking got bigger as if something was coming towards them. Everyone looked back and saw a huge shadow behind them, as the shadow got closer a clear image of a dog formed but then two heads pooped out from the side and that's when they realized it was Cerberus. "You just had to say something, don't you Armani?" Luke sighed, "Everyone run!" Kai yells. "Oh, I'm sorry I was planning on staying here OFCOURSE WE'RE GONNA FUCKING RUN!" Leslie says, Everyone began sprinting down the river without looking back, after a few seconds they were back to where the portal opened, Kai pulled out the card and saw the last horn fading away at a slow rate. "Okay everyone we have to stall until the portal opens" Kai says, "They all took out their guns and began firing rounds at Cerberus, however, the salt bullets did little to no damage to Cerberus but luckily the Colt bullets caused the dog to get some wounds and bleed, the three-headed dog kept barking at them and trying to attack them, suddenly the dogs turned its attention to Ava who was firing shots at the all the heads, the dog began charging towards Ava, but she was too dazed to move. Kai pushed Ava out of the way just in time. On the spur of the moment the portal appeared, Kai scooped Ava's body off the ground and booked it to the portal, their bodies passed through the portal and fell onto the floor of the house, and the others came through the portal not too long after. Kai grabbed Ava's face and looked in both of her eyes while trying to snap her out of her daze, Kai snapped his fingers twice which luckily brought Ava back."Are you okay?" He asks, "Yeah I don't think I'll ever sleep again but yeah, I'm fine" Ava replies. Kai released a loud sigh before lying flat on the floor, finally phase two of the plan was done, and now onto the final phase, phase 3. •——————————————•After a few minutes of resting everyone was in the living room examining the key, trying to find a way to activate it in hopes that it would lead them to Pluto's Gate but alas, nothing is ever really that simple, Leslie then grabbed the key from the table. "Okay let me try, In the brightest day, in the blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might, beware of my power! Green Lantern's light!" Leslie says, As expected, nothing happened, while Kai and Leslie were arguing, Ava picked up the key and examined it closely. Ava picked up her phone and shone the light on the key, she spun the key around but then realized some inscriptions on it. "Ek weet nie wat om te sê nie" Ava said, Suddenly the key began glowing a bright light that caught everyone's attention, the key zipped out of Ava's hand and spun in the air before coming to a complete stop, with the tip pointing East. "At Least we figured out how to work the key", "So, what now?" Leslie asks."Now we use the key and find Pluto's Gate, lower Marcaida through it, tomorrow our last confrontation with Marcaida, Ludriel, and Garai" Kai answered.
