You never thought Valentine's Day would be anything special, probably because you never had anyone to celebrate it with.

You could remember seeing people around you be so in love, even more on that special day. It was like they were bragging about how in love they were and how single you were.

Every time you saw your parents dancing in the kitchen, you wished for that. When you saw couples kissing, you wanted that and every time sometime would pass you by with flowers, you wanted to scream into your pillow.

Often at times, you would admit to pretending to be sick or busy just to avoid going out to clubs and parties. You enjoyed a drink or two, but it wasn't really your scene, which made you think that's probably why no one really asked you out.
But as sad as it sounded like you gave up on love, you waited. And waited. And waited. Hoping one day, cupid might help you out.

That's when you met Matt.

You met Matt at a diner you used to work at. Embarrassingly enough, he caught you crying in the parking lot eating a doughnut. You were crying over how lonely you were, especially on Valentine's Day.

Matt came up to you and asked if you were okay. You dismissed him and told him you were fine.

Matt didn't know why, but he sat down beside you. He didn't tell you it was okay; because it clearly wasn't, so he told you about his day and how he too, had a bad day.

You didn't know why he sat beside you or told you about his day. But you felt warmth and comfort from his presence and you felt like you could talk to him about anything. But you never did push him away, and you both ended up giving the other your numbers before Matt asked you out for dinner.

He showed up at your door with roses to be exact. You remembered the butterflies going crazy in your stomach because no one has ever done anything like that for you before.

Even after years of being together, you were forever grateful that Matt walked into your life. He  showed you what it was like to be loved and you still got the same butterflies you did the first time.

Matt would always thank his lucky stars for how you managed to be the one constant in his life and showed him the more mundane things in life.

They were simply made for each other

It was another year, another Valentine's Day.

But it your lives, it was just another day where you loved each other.

You and Matt decided to stay home and watch romantic comedies. Maybe bake a cake.

You both cuddled up on the couch to watch your favourite movie. Matt was the big spoon, as always, his arm wrapped around you.  Your legs were tangled under the blanket and Matt had his hand in yours.

"Do you think you'd forgive me if I did something wrong?" Matt asked, watching a scene unfold on the TV.

You hummed in response. "Well, it wouldn't depend what you did wrong" Matt laughed.

"What if the crime was I ate the last cookie last night?"

You gasped playfully and turned to look at him. "Now, that's crazy. I don't think I'll ever get over that" you frowned, until you broke into a smile.

"Okay, fair enough. The cookies are the limit"

You laughed at your boyfriend.

Matt shifted his head on his hand, holding himself up on his elbow. "Okay, but I have a question for you" He began

"You better not have taken that last cookie" you squinted your eyes at him and he laughed at how serious you were.

"Just let me ask you something" he teased, kissing your cheek. You shifted in place, facing him.

"Okay, hypothetically" He started.

"Oh no" you groaned playfully. You laughed as he hushed you, covering your face playfully. You grabbed his hand, kissed it and moved it away from your face.

"It's an important question" He continued. "Okay, hypothetically speaking" Matt almost got lost in your eyes. Your eyes were full of love and he felt lucky to be getting it.

"What would you do if I asked you to marry me?"

You gasped at the question. You looked at him, expecting him to start laughing. But he didn't.

Have you ever thought of marriage? Definitely. Have you ever thought of marrying Matt someday? Most definitely.

Matt got slightly nervous at your lack of response. He had thought about this for so long, and there was no other person in the universe he would want to spend the rest of his lifetime with. He would love to wake up every morning with you.

"Well, it depends. You haven't asked me, hypothetically" you teased him.

Matt threw his head back and laughed at your response. "Alright then. Will you marry me?"

Your jaw drops at his question. "Is this a serious?"

Matt nodded and smiled at you. "As serious as my love for you"

"Are you sure? Like super serious?"

"I'm super serious"

You smiled at him, shaking your head in disbelief as you cupped the side of his face. Matt instantly leans into your touch as he always does when he's with you. "Yes, I will," you answered him, not being able to hold back the grin you have.

"You will?" He pressed his forehead against yours. You nodded and tilted your head up to kiss his lips.

"Yeah, I will marry you" you laughed. Matt let out a deep breath, not that he had to be nervous in the first place.

"I'm gonna put a ring on your finger tonight"

Matt already had the ring picked out months ago and it was just sitting way beneath in his closet.

Later, he took  it out and slide it on your finger where it rightfully belonged. You hummed in delight, pecking his lips multiple times.

"I love you" you sighed, feeling so much love for him.

"I love you more"

You never did see anything special about Valentine's Day, but Matt had given you his love like it was Valentine's Day every day.

And today was simply one of the best you've ever had.
