Long awaited!!
"We'll take the room" Matt said, reaching into his wallet to take out some money. "Thanks for the help"
The same smell in the lobby surrounded you both. Dust coated every surface as well, thick layers of it covering the TV and the stand, the small coffee table and the window ledge. There was a small armchair in the corner, which must be pull out that the receptionist mentioned. Your relief was short lived when you saw the ratty beige blanket on the bed and you wondered if sleeping in Matt's car, might be better to do.
Matt shut the door, turning the lock before attaching the chain from the door to the door frame. "Let's keep that locked" He mumbled, walking to the window and made sure the curtains were pulled tightly. "I don't trust that receptionist prick not to sneak in here"
You nodded and fixed the bag on your shoulder. You weren't sure where to put it down because everything around you both looked like it hadn't been cleaned. "Yeah, thanks"
Matt grunted, not looking at you. "You don't need to thank me"
Despite being grateful, you rolled your eyes. "Jesus, can't you say you're welcome?"
Matt ignored you and put his bag down, opening it up. "You take the bed" He put his sunglasses into the bag before pulling out another bag with what you thought were his toiletries. "I'll take the chair"
"Fine" you set your own bag down on the bed, pulling back the blankets to check. The inside of the bed looked cleaner than the exterior and you put the blankets back, grabbing your charger from your bag.
Matt looked at you as you sat and plugged your phone into the wall. "I'm going to shower" He said, looking for a reaction. "Do you need anything in there, or-"
"Nope" you shook your head and checked your messages. "You're good" you kept your eyes on your phone as Matt locked the bathroom door, signalling you were alone.
You changed from your tank top and leggings into your pyjamas, wishing your past self knew you'd be sharing a room with Matt. You brought two pairs and neither of those you wanted Matt to see you in. The first pair, a baby pink silk set you bought were eliminated before you even considered them, leaving you with just your casual ones. Unfortunately, they were an old sports bra and a pair of men's boxers. You changed into them quickly and dialled Lisa's number.
Lisa answered on the third ring, her voice chirped. "Hey, how was driving today?"
"It would have been better if I knew Matt was driving" you sighed, rubbing your exposed thigh. "Shouldn't I have been told about that?"
"It slipped my mind" She said casually. "How was the first day? Are you calling for help to bury his body? Because you know I would in a heartbeat, but it might ruin my relationship if my best friend murdered her best friend"
"No one's been murdered. Yet" you looked at the bathroom door, the sound of the shower echoing through the vents. "Although that phone call may be coming soon"
"Uh oh" You heard cackling against the speaker. "Is that bad?"
You pinched the bridge of your nose as you debated the easiest way to answer the question. "He's so irritating. He really is" you lowered your voice. If Matt was listening, then let him hear. "He wants to pick a fight over everything. Did you know he gave his car a gender? A gender, Lisa!"
She sighed through the phone. "That's not that weird, you know?" Lisa said in her best peace keeping voice. "And you're the only person who finds Matt irritating? Grace adores him and I really like him and everyone who meets him, likes him"
