It had been a few weeks since you saw Matt, but it felt like decades. You were on your way to pick him up from the airport and couldn't wait to see him again after he spent the holidays with his family. You never thought you'd miss someone that much, but here you are.
The terminal was full of people when you arrived and checked the board for Matt's flight. His plane just landed so he'll be here anyway minute. You leaned against a wall and stared at the exit.
Then he finally arrived.
He looked just like he did when you parted ways in December, he was wearing a black hoodie and denim jeans and he stopped in his tracks, his eyes looking over the crowd until they find you.
You rushed towards each other at the same time, pushing past relatives and loved ones before meeting halfway. You threw your arms around him and smashed against him.
"Hey, babe" He mumbled, kissing the side of your head.
"Maybe it wasn't a good idea to live together just when we start dating" you said against his neck and he laughed.
"I'm guessing you missed me"
You nodded and held him a little longer, leaning back enough so he can kiss you. You used to frown at couples who made out in public but now you've become one of them.
The ride to the resort took an hour, but it was extra time you could spend alone with Matt. You try to summarise your family members, who he should watch out for and who the safe people were. He listened and nodded along, telling you there was nothing to worry about but you knew better.
"You haven't met my family, Matt" you groaned
"I met your sister"
"But she..she could be fine. And she was alone, she's different when the whole family is around"
"It's going to be fine. I can handle it"
"I'm serious, Matt. My dad can..he can say hurtful things and not realise it"
"Okay, I'm a big boy, I can handle that" he laughed and gave your thigh a squeeze.
"Alright" you sighed and then laughed. "Big boy"
Even though you told Matt before this was going to be over the top, his eyes widened when he saw the resort that was rented for the wedding. Of course, your dad paid for everything.
Matt grabbed his bags from the trunk of your car and you headed inside, hand in hand, praying you don't run into anyone before you get to the room. Just as you walked into the lounge, your dad and his business partner was there.
"Fuck" you said when your Dad noticed you right away and excused himself from the conversation. "Brace yourself"
Matt squeezed your hand as your Dad walked towards you both.
"Hey Dad, this is Matt, my boyfriend" you said, not as confidently as you'd like. "Matt, this is my father"
"It's a pleasure to meet you" Matt held his hand out. Your dad looked down at Matt's hand before taking it and shaking it.
"Matt, I finally get to see her mystery plus one, huh?"
His words were normal, but they sent a shiver down your spine. The cold gaze he shot Matt before letting go of his hand, you knew he was tearing Matt apart in his head.
"Not so mysterious anymore" Matt smiled at him.
"No. Definitely not"
"We'll see you at dinner, Dad. Matt is probably tired for all that travelling"
