It was a warm summer afternoon when Matt and his four year old son, Cody, left the house. The two were going to the movies while you and your daughter were off planning a surprise party for a friend.
"We're gonna have fun today" Matt exclaimed, strapping his son into his car seat in the backseat of the mini van.
"Where are we going, Daddy?" Cody asked, looking at Matt. Matt laughed in response, after telling his son where they were headed at least a hundred times.
"We're going to the movies" Matt explained carefully. "To see the new LEGO Movie"
Matt finished strapping him up and closed his door. He walked around the car and got into the drivers side. Cody was satisfied with his answer, until Matt started driving.
"Daddy?" Cody spoke after the sound of the radio playing.
"Yeah?" Matt replied, looking back at him through the rear view mirror.
"Is Emmet in this movie?" Cody asked, looking out the window from his car seat. Matt laughed and stopped at a red light.
"Yeah, he will be" Matt replied, though he started to question himself.
"He's my favourite" Cody told him, smiling. Matt could help but laugh.
"I know he is" Matt glanced back at him again. "Are you excited?"
"Yeah!" Cody kicked his feet excitedly against the passenger seat in front of him. Matt pulled into the movie parking lot and his little boy squealed.
As Matt parked the car, then got out to help Cody out, Cody pointed at the movie displays outside the building. Matt loved seeing him so excited over a trip to the movies and he loved spending time with his kids before he had to leave again.
"Come on, Daddy" Cody laughed as he pulled Matt's hand, leading towards the door. Matt laughed as he followed his eager four year old.
"Let's take a picture for Mommy" Matt insisted and Cody frowned, wanting to go inside as quickly as possible.
"Just one picture" Matt said, as they both stood in front of the massive LEGO Movie billboard. Cory was used to the pictures you and Matt would constantly take of him. He gave the cheekiest smile he could and Matt took the picture.
"All done" Matt smiled, putting his phone back in his pocket. "Now let's go see the movie"
Matt bought the tickets online, so he and Cody skipped the queue and headed straight for the people scanning tickets. This was ideal for someone who had an excited four year old.
"I'm going to the LEGO MOVIE" Cody told the young girl working at the desk.
"That's awesome! I heard it's a great movie" She said, looking down at Cody at Matt's feet.
Cody was charming, he took after Matt in a lot of ways. At four, he was great at speaking to people.
"Enjoy the movie" She said, after scanning the tickets. Matt said 'thank you' and Cody squealed in excitement. The two of them walked hand in hand towards the concession stands.
