You stand in the kitchen, chuckling and shaking your head, as you stare at Matt's most recent purchase.

"I can't believe you bought this."

"It's just an coffee machine." He smirked

"We don't need it, Matt."

"I disagree." He walks over to where you are standing and wraps his arms around your waist, leaning back enough to look you in the eyes. "I need it."

"And why's that?" You utter. He's gonna convince you, you already know that.

"You won't have to go to Starbucks before work. Now I can get a few extra minutes with you in the morning."

"You're cute." You place your palms on his cheeks and your lips on his own. "And maybe we can still go to the cafe on weekends? We still need our weekly cupcakes."

"Not me. I already have mine."

You pull back and bite your lower lip, watching as he begins to smirk and shake his head.

"But yes, we will still go get cupcakes, Cupcake."

You oddly feel a small sense of relief knowing that you'll be going to work today. Last night was just another slap in the face of the reality you are now living in, but this time that slap actually came from Matt, and not the universe

If Matt needs space, leaving him today will do just that. Maybe it could do you both some good.

You have done everything you need to do in your bedroom to get ready. You've given yourself enough time to swiftly head out the door and make a quick stop at Starbucks.

The uncertainty you felt last night before opening the front door is replaced with dread. That is something you never imagined feeling in regards to Matt.

A small amount of hope blooms at the possibility that he might still be asleep, but it is quickly dashed as you hear the shuffling in the kitchen, and you squeeze your eyes shut as you open the door.

As soon as you're close, your eyes shoot up to see Matt turn around to look at you.

"Hey..." He utters. "Making coffee... if you want some..."

"No, thanks, I can't. I'm off to work." You reply, doing your best to give him a small smile.

"Oh, right." His gaze drops down a little.

"Yeah. So, I'll... be back later today." You clear your throat. "But if you need anything, just... give me a call."

You turn to grab your bag and keys and as you walk closer to the door you hear his footsteps coming from the kitchen.

"Wait."He exhales, and you turn around to see him standing timidly with his hands in his pockets. "Umm... I..."

His breathing increases ever so slightly, and he opens his mouth to speak, but no words come out.

You unintentionally let out a sigh, backed by frustration. You don't want to be facing him right now. You want to get out of there, and now he is making it more difficult to do so.

He looks up and straightens up, letting out a sigh of his own before opening his mouth again.

"Some of my old friend... invited me out today." He states. "So, m'gonna be... hanging out with them."

"Okay." You immediately reply, not giving him time to explain. "Call me... if you need me... and, uh, have a good day."

With that, you swiftly open and close the door behind you and head towards the elevator.
