The town I call my home looked overgrown and abandoned. My heart dropped and I froze on the spot, "Y/n?" Joel called my name, I sighed and walked beside him. We reached the gate and Joel seemed confused, "You stay there." He told Ellie before putting the code in the keypad, the door made a noise to signal it was open. Joel opened the gate door letting me and Ellie through first, closing it behind him. We walked up to their house, the dead plants gave me my answer making my eyes water. Joel opened the door to the house, it was silent. "What the fuck?" Ellie said, "Bill?" Joel called out "Frank"... no answer, tears silently welled in my eyes and I looked around with blurred vision. "You stay there. You hear anything, you see anything... yell." He told Ellie, "Joel." I whispered, he turned his attention to me, "Joel... They aren't-" I cut myself off with a breath, Joel sighed and walked away leaving the room. A rotten dinner sat at Frank and bills seats, "Shit.." I mumbled.
Ellie's fingers lightly danced on the piano as she walked by it, she saw a letter and picked up the key and envelope. Joel walked back in the room a few seconds later Ellie sat at the table while i sat against the wall. Ellie held the note, "It's from Bill." She said before picking up the envelope, "To whomever... but probably Joel or hopefully Y/n." Ellie read out "I figured I fell under "whomever", "Came with this." She said sliding the key over towards Joel, he took his backpack off and picked up the key. "So they're dead?" He asked Ellie hummed confirming it. Joel turned to look at me, I was staring forward trying to keep my tears inside. "You.. you wanna?" Ellie asked Joel, "Go ahead. You do it." Joel told her.
Ellie cleared her throat, "August 29th, 2023. If you find this, please do not come into the bedroom. We left a window open so the house wouldn't smell, but it would probably be a sight. I'm guessing you found this Joel (maybe Y/n but I doubt that), Because anyone else would've been electrocuted or blown up by one of my traps. Hehehehehehehe... Take anything you need. The bunker code is the same as the gate code but in reverse. Anyway, I never liked you, but still, it's like we're friends... almost. And I respect you. So I'm gonna tell you something because you're probably the only person who will understand. I used to hate the word, and I was happy when everyone died. But I was wrong because there was one person worth saving. That's what I did. I saved him. And then I saved my son too. Then I protected them. That's why men like you and me are here. "If you are reading this Y/n, thank you. I should've never doubted taking you in. There's a note in the kitchen of your house and scruff is in there too. Ps. Don't worry I left the door flap open so he doesn't shit in your kitchen. We both wish we could've seen you again, but I believe something came up and I pray you're not hurt. Frank and I have left you a present in the kitchen as well. Love Dad and Pa.." she finished, I sighed and left the house. I quickly walked to my house beside theirs and saw the note on the door
