Dark red by Steve Lacy

Something bad is 'bout to happen to me
I don't know it, but I feel it coming
Might be so sad, might leave my nose running
I just hope she don't wanna leave me

-(El)-

I searched around the cage, fiddling and pulling on the metal pieces when my eye caught something that horrified me. David entered the room, sliding a dish of meat soup with a drink and spoon. My eyes didn't move from the flesh on the blood stained floor. David's head turned to look at what was making me so speechless, the ear that laid cut off on the floor. My breaths were shaky, my eyes wide. "For what it's worth, this is just deer meat. I swear." He tried to reassure me on the food, "You're gonna chop me up into little pieces." I said, moving my eyes to his.
"I'd rather not. Please, just tell me your name." He asked, sighed at my lack of answer. "If you wanna judge me..."
"JUDGE YOU!?" I shouted in shock, running towards the cage's door.
"YOU'RE EATING PEOPLE, YOU SICK FUCK!" The food clattered against the table outside the cage.
"Yes. There are only a few of us that know. But I would've told you. Sooner or later. I guess sooner." He admitted,
"You're an animal." I said lowly,
"Well, yes, we all are. That's sorta the point." I scoffed at his response,
"It was a last resort. You think it doesn't shame me? But what was I supposed to do? Let them starve? These people who put their lives in my hands, who e-expect me to keep them safe, who love me?" He asked,
"Yeah. Maybe." I snapped back.
"You don't believe that. I don't think your friends would either. Didn't he take another man's life to save the two of you?"
"He was defending himself."
"He was defending you two." He corrected me, "But you knew that. You see a lot. So do I. And you know what I see when I look at you? Me. You remind me of me." I looked away from him, I am nothing like him. "You're a natural leader, you're smart... loyal. Violent."
"You don't know anything about me." I argued, "But I do. If I let you out that cage right now, put that knife of yours back in your hand, you'd stick me in a second. You have a violent heart. You're fugitive has violence wrapped around every inch of his body. And I should know. I've always had a violent heart. And I struggled with it for a long time. But then the world ended and I was shown the truth." He told me,
"Right... by God."
"No. By Cordyceps." My eyes widened at his words. "What does Cordyceps do? Is it evil? No. It's fruitful. It multiplies. It feeds and protects its children, and it secures its future with violence, if it must. It loves." He explained,
"Why are you telling me all this?"
"Because you can handle it. The way the others can't. They need God. They need heaven. They need... they need a father. You don't. You're beyond that. Im a shepherd surrounded by sheep, and all I want... is an equal. A friend." He said, "What about my friends?" I asked him,
"Like I said, loyal. I can tell the others to stop looking for them. They'll spare him." He told me.
"Really? They'll just let him go?"
"Yes. If he leaves us in peace, they will just let him go. They do what I tell them to. They follow me. And they would follow us-"
"Lord knows I could use the help. I... look what's happened. Think of what we could do together, as strong as we are. We'd make this place perfect. We'd grow, spread out, and we'd do whatever we needed for our people." He said, placing his hand on the metal bar on the door. My hand reached the pole beside him,
"Imagine the life we could give them." His hand moved over to mine. "Imagine the life we could build."
I looked to his hand that laid on top of mine, "Oh..." I moved my other hand on top of his, quickly snapping his finger. He shouted in pain, I let go of him to try and grab the keys, which fell to the floor. David grabbed my shoulder and pulled me against the metal door twice, harshly, before throwing me onto the floor. "You little bitch." He swore, picking up the keys "let's see what I go tell the others now." He threatened. "Ellie." I told him, "What?"
"Tell them that Ellie is the little girl, who broke your FUCKING FINGER!" I shouted at him, blood running down my nose, "how did you put it? Hmm? "Tiny little pieces"?" He pulled the door open and slammed if behind him. My heart dropped as my breaths got heavy.

-(J)-

I'd found Y/n stumbling towards Rodney a couple minutes ago, telling him to leave the horse and follow me.
He did so, before he wandered the other way to make sure there was no one peeking around. Now, I was limping my way around, having to lean on a cobble pillar to regain my strength, a trail of blood catching my attention. I limped towards a door, the trail red beneath it, breaking the lock and closing the door behind me after I entered. I switched my flashlight on, scanning the room. My eyes finding Ellie's bag, flicking my light to the other side of the room, opening a  door. My flashlight walked over the decaying body of my horse, my breath's quickening as I scanned the rest of the room. My feet stopping at the sight unfolding right in-front of my eyes. Bodies... human bodies...

-(Y)-

My breaths were cold as I searched around for any dangers, the heavy thump of a hand on my shoulder making me spin, holding my knife to the guy's neck. "Joel!?" I shouted quietly, "You idiot, I could have sliced your fuckin' neck open!"
"They're eating people." He blurted out,
"What?"
"I found Ellies bag. And the horse. And... people, hung up by their feet." He explained, my heart stopped.
"People? Actual human people?" I asked, he nodded. I looked to the bag over his arm. "Oh shit. You're not lying. No, why would you? Lets... lets go." I breathed out, eyes wide in shock. Joel nodded again walking ahead of me. Oblivious to the situation Ellie was having on the edge
of life and death.

-(El)-

I rushed into the restaurant, bursting the kitchen doors open to find a weapon. Some burning wood caught my eye, I grabbed a piece and hid behind the table separator. The creaks of Davids feet telling me he was here, I jumped up and threw the log at him, he ducked, the burning wood hitting the curtain. I ran off, "There's no way out Ellie." I heard him speak up, "The doors are locked. And I have the keys. Ellie?" He called out,
"Ellie?"
