It has been two days since they returned back to Hogwarts, and Sirius was avoiding her. The thing that hurt her the most was that she saw him kissing her roommate.

Ruby entered the common room with a gleeful smile only to get faded at the sight. She gripped her books against her chest and stared at them. Her roommate was seated on his lap as they both were making out.

Ruby felt like tearing up, but she just raised her head a little and walked past them as if they were just an illusion. Once she went to her dorm, she slammed the door with force as she paced around the room.

She remembered how he asked her out the other day, how he told her that he liked her way before. She was angry with herself for trusting him blindly.

Her roommate entered the room as she controlled her smile. She looked at the mirror and adjusted her messy hair. Ruby just glared at the girl and sat on her chair, and started doing her assignment.

"Hey Ruby, Sirius asked for you," she said as she looked at the reflection.

"What?"

"Yeah, he told me that he wanted to see you. See ya!" She said and walked out of the room. Ruby mimicked her actions, feeling annoyed as she just stayed in her room.

She focused on her assignment, and finally, she completed it. Ruby heaved a sigh of contentment and walked out of her dorm only to see Sirius sleeping on the couch. She paused on her steps and just stared at him. She couldn't believe the fact that she fell for a player like him.

It was true that she had feelings for Sirius in the first year, but it changed once he started using girls. Now that in his sixth year, she thought that he changed, but she was wrong.

Ruby walked out of the dorm to have dinner, leaving Sirius alone, who had many thoughts in his mind.

Ruby had her dinner with her friends.

"And then she started chasing me like a potato! " James said with a laugh as Peter giggled.

"Soon, my dad tried to calm her down, or else my mom would've used a killing curse on me," James said jokingly, but it didn't feel like a joke to Ruby. Her smile faded at his comment as she just stared at her food. She felt a lump on her throat as she swallowed her saliva.

Lily noticed this as she kept her hand above Ruby's, who flinched at the contact. She looked up to see Lily with a warming smile. Soon, Ruby returned back that smile as she continued with her dinner.

Once she had her dinner, she made her way to common room, but her steps got interrupted by a fellow Slytherin. She immediately crossed her arms and gave him a cold stare.

"What do you want, Snape?" She asked.

"I'm sorry, Lupin," he said, and Ruby was taken a back.

"Reason?"

"For mistreating Evans and for ignoring you," he said in his famous monotone voice. Ruby unfolded her arms and looked at him.

"It's of no use, Snape. I know that my brother and his friends weren't treating you well, but that doesn't mean that you could treat Lily badly. " Ruby said as a matter of fact.

"Lu-"

"And I'm not the person you're supposed to be saying, right?" She asked and just walked away, making Severus's shoulder slump. He always felt a sisterly feel with her, and he thought that they would be friends forever. But, he lost his first friend and his first best friend who made him laugh.

Ruby started to prepare for her O. W. Ls. She took help from her brother and Lily. She helped Eleanor also in the process.

She was learning potions in the library, and suddenly, she felt someone's presence across her. She looked up to see James with a hesitant smile.

"Need any help, James?" She whispered out as James fiddled with the hem of his sleeves.

"I made a huge mistake," James blurted out as Ruby looked at him with confusion.

"Pardon?"

"I- I, well, you see- I.. how do I tell you?" He cursed himself for stuttering.

"James, are you okay?"

"Totally," he said sarcastically as Ruby gave him a look.

"So listen carefully, I'm not gonna stop in middle. I somehow made Sirius not talk with you because of something that happened to him, and the reason was I didn't want him to get hurt, but I did hurt him in the process. He's not ignoring me, of course. But he's avoiding you, and the reason is that James Fleamont Potter, " he rambled as Ruby just blinked at him confession.

"What are you - wait, what happened to Sirius?" She asked, feeling more confused.

"It would be better if he tells you,"

"And it would be better if you two leave," Madam Pince said as she looked at them with narrowed eyes. Ruby smiled nervously as she walked out of the library, dragging James, who threw a wink at Madam Pince.

"So, what did you say?" She asked.

"I- I said that he doesn't deserve you." Ruby looked at him with open mouth as she let out a scoff.

"What's wrong with you?"

"See, it was due to heat of the moment. If it wasn't for him getting kicked o- " James stops in his sentence as Ruby eyes him with a glare.

"Kicked him? What the hell is happening?!" Ruby asked as she raised her hands, getting frustrated.

"I-- you see, Lily wants me. I'm-- Bye! Sorry and love you, Ruby, " James said in a rush as he ran away from her. Ruby cursed him under her breath as she heaved a sigh.

To get rid of this mess, Ruby decided to go out for a walk near Black Lake.
