Ruby was back to normal, and she tried her level best to forget about that dreadful nightmare.

"So, what are you guys planning for Christmas?" Ruby asked as she kept her hand under her chin.

"As usual, celebrate it with my parents and doing some pranks on them," James said with a mischievous glint in his eyes.

"What about you both?" She asked Peter and Sirius.

"I'm gonna bake cookies with my mom. She'll love it," Peter said as he took a bite of his toast. Now, Ruby's gaze flickered to Sirius, who just remained silent.

And that's when she remembered about his cruel mom. There's no hell way he'll have a good Christmas with Walburga.

"When's the quidditch match? I'm waiting for Gryffindor to win the trophy, " Ruby said with an excited smile as the boys also grinned.

"Just make the arrangements for a party, we're gonna win this time," Sirius said with a challenging smile as James patted Sirius's arm playfully.

" Okay, I guess it's time for my potions class. I better get going. See you guys!" James said as he walked towards the exit of the great hall. Ruby was confused. She knew that James would never go early to his classes, and now that he was worried about being late, it made her get worried.

"What's with him?" Ruby asked to Remus.

"He's been doing this since mid year, and the thing here is, it's been three months since he lastly asked out Lily," Remus said,to which her eyes widened.

"Three months? In these past three months, he'd never asked her out, again?" Sirius shook his head and heaved a sigh.

"I guess he's trying to let go of her," Sirius said. Ruby knew how James loves Lily, but now the things are getting different.

"So, he didn't have any conversation with her in these past three months?" She asked.

"He just had talks with her like, clarifying his doubts in subjects," Peter said, munching his food.

"It's sad that he's trying to give up on his love, but I'm actually happy that he's at least focusing on his academic," she paused and looked at Sirius with a teasing look. "Unlike someone,"

Sirius exclaimed dramatically as he gave her a look.

"I'm offended," he said.

"I'm glad that you're offended, padfoot," Ruby said with a wink as she too made her way outside the great hall.

Remus looked up from the book he was reading to Sirius, who was still looking at the entrance with a little smile.

" Did my sister just call you padfoot?" He asked by narrowing eyes to Sirius.

"Uh- it's common for her to address me like that, right?" Sirius asked as he let out a nervous chuckle.

" She winked at him! Ruby looked so cool when she did that, " Peter said, clapping his hands in excitement.

"She did - What?!"

"Nothing personal, Moony. Just a casual wink, like the one I used to give to people, " Sirius justified as he side glared Peter, who just looked somewhere innocently.

" That better be casual then," Remus said firmly as he took the books in his hands.

"Of course, it will be casual," Sirius added with a grin.

"Let head to class. Come on, guys,"

After her astronomy class, Ruby was doing her essay about Jupiter's moon. She hated astronomy, but she got no other way to escape from it.

The library was silent, and she was peacefully doing her essay, but that feel didn't last. She felt someone 's presence in front of her. Ruby looked ahead to see Severus with his famous poker face. She rolled her eyes and concentrated back to her essay.

"How are you?" He asked Ruby, to which she nodded her head.

And once again, they were in silence. Not that she cared about it.

Once she completed her essay, she took her books in her hands and stood up from her seat before walking out. Within a few seconds, Severus also joined her.

"What do you want?" She asked, looking at him with cold gaze. He just remained silent, which annoyed her even more.

" Do you wanna call me as an adopted mudblood too?" Severus froze at her question. Before he could say anything, she abruptly cuts off his words by saying,

"It's my mistake for supporting you these many years," she started off. " When everyone talked shit about you, I was the one who stood up for you! But you just disgust me now!" She said as venom spilled in her words.

"What did I do?" He asked in a gentle tone.

"What you didn't do? You called Lily as - as, you used that word! You broke her trust as well, " she stuttered as she felt uneasy to say 'mudblood'.

"It was an acc-"

"Accident? Well, accidents also end up hurting others, Snape, " she said and walked to the common room, leaving Severus alone.

He clutched the box, which he held in his hand, and looked at it. It was a gift for her birthday. It was a whistle, which she always talked about it to him.

He kept the box in his bag and walked in the opposite direction with guilt.
