She knew how hard it was to deal with nightmares, hell, she's been doing it for centuries now but that never made them easier. Each time they came around it felt like worlds were colliding in her head and she was powerless to stop anything. So she knew how hard it must have been for him, for James, to have to deal with the memories coming back as nightmares. She would never know how that kind of pain felt but she knew that above anything else she could see the pain, she could see the distress in his charming brown eye when he shot up from bed. She loved the man with all of her body and soul so there was no way she would leave him to deal with these nightmare alone. She was sleeping next to him when his sudden and abrupt movement upwards woke her up.

Groggily she watched him grab his head "are you alright, Bucky?" he didn't respond, he couldn't talk right now and she understood. She sat up and reached for his shoulder but he moved,

"n-no, I don't want to hurt you" he rushed up from the bed and she felt the sadness return, burning a hole through her chest.

"I see your monsters, I see your pain. Tell me your problems, I'll chase them away. I'll be your lighthouse. I'll make it okay; When I see your monsters I'll stand there so brave, and chase them all away. . ." she half sang while standing up and walking over to him.

"I can't, you won't like what you see. If you were in my head and had to hear my plea; it's like, I can't believe this is happening to me." he didn't sing but he spoke in a very soft raspy voice, hushed almost child-like in the way he said the words. She watched him flinch and pull away from her touch but she was relentless, she wasn't about to let him deal with this pain alone. She watched him continue to suffer from the pain in front of her and in one swift motion she grabbed him in a tight hug.

"I won't let you do this alone, never, I don't want you to hurt so I will chase away all of the monsters that haunt you. I will be there when everything else is not, when you feel like all has been abandoned I will still stay by your side. I love you Bucky, I'm not going to let you do this to yourself."

She stood back from him and noticed the small streaks silently going down his face, tears-he was crying in front of her. He had never done that, but then again he had never met a person quite as resilient as she was-no one as brave as she was. He couldn't stop the tears but he forced himself to silence the sobs but she wasn't going to have that. She grabbed his hands and made him look at her, made his silence break and made sounds come from his slightly parted lips.

"Cry, cry until you have no tears left" she encouraged it and the more she did the more sound she heard until he was holding on to her.

The two of them sat in an embrace for a while but she didn't keep track of how long that while was exactly. She was holding him whispering coo's of 'it's alright's' and 'shh, I'm right here' but she was going to prove to him that she was going to stay by him-even through this. His cries had stopped but he still clung to her for comfort.

"Thank you, thank you a million times" he whispered into her hair realizing that at some point they had ended up sitting on the edge of the bed.

"No need to thank me, Bucks!" she smiled, oh her smile it made him weak at the knees, made his heart race, and made his hands sweaty.

She gave him a small peck on the lips, before looking into his eyes; eyes that held so much behind them that she was so fortunate to see. She saw the pain and the monsters he battled nightly but she also saw the love and devotion he had for her. She cherished him as a person, as a whole but there was something special in his eyes that always seemed to reassure her in a different way than his words did; not that those did not work it was just different. She crawled back up to where she was sleeping previously before looking back to him.

"Come on, we both need to sleep" she offered him her hand and after getting comfortable beside her once more he took it. He held her hand and played mindlessly with her thin fingers taking small glances of her every now and then.

"Goodnight" he whispered pulling her from her side to his and she gladly curled into his chest "Goodnight, Bucks."
