Anthony's POV:

"There is no friendship, and no love, like that of the parent for their child." — Henry Ward Beecher".

As John drove us to the hospital, I knew my life was about to change. I was going to find out what kind of baby we were going to have. And even though I knew I wasn't the biological father for that child, it didn't matter. I had made the decision to be there, and I was already in love with the child, even though I hadn't held him but for the few kicks I had felt. This little human that Karlie was carrying was loved deeply by me.

As we got out of the car, I was nervous. I held her hand as we walked inside. Dr. Austin greeted us, "Are you both excited?" "We are," Karlie replied, "and we are somewhat nervous." "I understand. It can be a little scary," Dr. Austin reassured us.

As they got into the room, Dr. Austin told Karlie to change into one of the gowns provided by the hospital and lay down on her back. The gown had an opening that left out her stomach. As Dr. Austin did a few vital checks and deemed everything was in order, Anthony stood at Karlie's bedside, and Dr. Austin began the ultrasound.

"Wow, this little one is a little kicker," he stated. "He sure is," Anthony replied, amazed. "Wow, wow," the doctor said. "Doc, what's wrong?" Anthony asked anxiously. "It's two of them," the doctor replied. "What are you saying, doc? Look closely. Here is the first baby, he's a boy, and here's the second baby, a girl!"

Anthony and Karlie stared at the screen in astonishment. "We are having twins!" they both exclaimed. "Oh my gosh, we are having twins!" Karlie added. "I take it you guys are overjoyed," Dr. Austin said with a smile. "Well, yes, overjoyed is one word for how we are feeling," Anthony replied. The doctor cleaned off the gel from her stomach. "Mrs. Fairview, I'm going to have to give you some pills. The boy is outgrowing the girl, so the pills will help her grow as well. I'll leave you two for a moment. I have another patient to check on. I feel I need to give you two a little more time to process the news. Congratulations to you both."

"Thank you, doc," they replied as he left the room. Both Anthony and Karlie were silent. Someone needed to break the silence, so Karlie stated, "We finally know what colors to paint the nursery." Anthony laughed, "I guess so. I know this journey is not going to be easy, but I believe with you by my side, we can do anything. It's me and you together." "You're right. We've got this," Karlie agreed. "So, what are you thinking for names?" Anthony asked. "I already know what we should name them. We should name the boy Hayden Antonio Fairview and the girl Addison Kaitlyn Fairview." "Oh wow, I love the names. Did you already know we were having twins? I mean, the name came to you with little to no effort," Karlie laughed. "I thought we should give both kids a part of our names."

The doctor finally returned and told Karlie he wanted to see her again in 6 weeks to check how the girl is growing. He handed them the prescription and told Anthony to get it at the pharmacy downstairs. As Karlie and Anthony walked down the stairs, Anthony asked, "So, when do we tell the rest of the family?" Karlie replied, "I don't want to. You heard the doctor Our son is growing, but our daughter still needs to catch up. We will tell everyone once we know the girl is fully okay. I agree," Anthony responded. They stopped at the pharmacy and picked up the medications. Then they drove home. Karlie wanted to stop at a fast food joint for some French fries and a cheeseburger. It wasn't something she ate often, so Anthony had no problem obliging. They stopped, and both Anthony and Karlie enjoyed their burgers.

As they sat and talked about what colors, Karlie wanted to travel overseas to shop for the kids, and Anthony was skeptical. He stated it would have to be approved by Dr. Austin first. "You worry too much," Karlie stated. They finished their meals, paid for it, and left to continue on their journey home. She thought to herself, "Twins! How was she going to keep this from Amber?" They finally got home, and the staff was waiting. Everyone wanted to know who they were going to be taking care of. "We are having twins," Anthony stated, "but not a word to anyone. We want to keep it down a little while longer before we tell the rest of the family." "Okay, certainly, sir," they all nodded. "Mrs. Fairview, what do you want for dinner? I'm quite full now," Karlie said. "I am going to take a nap. Make steaks, well done, with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies." Karlie smiled, "That's what we had on our very first date. You remembered." "Of course I do," Anthony replied. "Kenya, can you help me change and call off my hair appointment? Make it for tomorrow. I'm quite tired." Kenya went and changed her into a nightgown. "Congratulations, madam," she said. "You both will make beautiful parents." She left, and for the first time in months, Karlie thought of Aiden, the actual father of her child. As she looked at her things in the master bedroom, she blushed and pushed the thought away. This was her life now. She climbed into bed. The covers were so soft. She laid on her side. Anthony came into the room, changed, and climbed into bed. As he came into bed, she curled up on his chest. He placed his arms around her and kissed her forehead. Both of them laid together until they fell asleep.
