Chapter 28

The quintet kneeled down behind some barrels, trying to stay clear from the guards that were walking around, Steve led them and as they stayed clear.

''Red Dawn, I saw it,'' Erica told the group.

''Saw what?'' Robin asked.

''The Comms room,'' Erica replied.

''You saw the Comms room?'' Jess asked, wondering how the hell a little girl knew about a comms room.

''Correct.''

''Are you sure?'' Robin asked.

''Positive. The door was open for a second and I saw a bunch of lights and machines and shit in there,'' Erica said.

''That could be a hundred different things,'' Dustin admitted.

''I'll take those odds,'' Robin said.

''Yeah me too,'' Jess exclaimed.

Steve sighed. ''All right, we're gonna move fast, we're gonna stay low. Okay?''

The rest of the group nodded and followed Steve into the room where they could hear the broadcast of the code, he let his friends and girlfriend head in first before shutting the door behind him. He turned around and there was a young man wearing a green Russian uniform. ''Who are you?'' he asked in Russian, reaching for his gun from his Hollister.

''Serebryanyy kot,'' Robin exclaimed, Jess had no idea what she was saying but she figured it had something to do with the code. ''Serebryanyy kot.''

''I don't understand,'' the main said in Russian.

''Kitay,'' Robin finished.

Steve suddenly yelled out a loud scream before charging at the man and throwing him into the control panel, the man pulled Steve up and shoved him into the control panel, Steve grabbed a hold of a plastic phone and hit against the man's face and he fell backwards smacking his head on the control panel and blacking out. Steve dropped the phone, he panted as he ran a few fingers through his hair, looking back at what he said just done.

''Dude!'' Dustin shouted, pointing at his friend. ''You did it, you won a fight.''

Steve smiled and Jess walked up to him, she wrapped her arms around his neck and he placed his around her waist. ''You did it, Stevie you won you're first fight,'' Jess beamed, kissing him lightly on the lips.

''Yeah I guess I did,'' Steve smiled, kissing Jess lightly on the lips back.

The two were at it kissing, forgetting about the stressful situation they were in and making out as they were interrupted by Erica feeling grossed out. ''You two are gross,'' Erica gagged.

Jess and Steve pulled away from each other and just burst into laughter as Robin lingered away from them and she seemed to be staring through a giant window. Jess and Steve went to join her along with Dustin and Erica. Jess couldn't quite put her finger on what she was looking at but there a giant orange gate and some machine trying to rip it open, then it hit her, it was the gate, the gate that El closed but what she didn't get was why these Russians wanted to open it up again in the first place? She already had enough trauma from the upside down and didn't want anymore, she had her fingers intertwined with Steve's as he held her tightly. ''It can't be,'' she whispered to him.

''The gate,'' Steve exclaimed.

''I don't understand you've seen this before?'' Robin questioned, turning away with her friends.

''Not exactly,'' Jess replied.

''Then what exactly?''

''All you need to know is it's bad. It's really bad,'' Dustin exclaimed.

''Like, end-of-the-human-race-as-we-know-it kind of bad,'' Jess finished.

''And you know about this how?''

The friends headed back into the room to see that the Russian was no longer laying on the ground, out cold. ''Shit,'' Jess muttered under her breath.

''Uh, Steve where's your Russian friend?'' Erica questioned.

Steve looked down at the floor to see the Russian that was no longer there. Suddenly an alarm blared and the quintet had to get out of here as fast as possible, Steve clutched a hold of Jess's hand as they rushed past a bunch of guards and scientists, Jess was cursing under her breath as she tried to rush away with her the rest of the group. They made their way out of the place and Steve pressed the door shut behind him, he knew he wouldn't be able to stop the guards for too long so he pressed his back up against the door, holding it shut. ''Jess, Robin, come help me,'' he exclaimed. Jess and Robin rushed to his aid and also pressed their backs up against the door, keeping it shut as the guards banged against it trying to get through.

''Get out of here,'' Steve shouted to Dustin and Erica.

''Come on,'' Dustin ushered his friends and sister to follow after him.

''Go get help, okay? I love you, Dusty,'' Jess shouted out.

''What are you doing?'' Steve asked Dustin who wasn't moving.

''I won't forget you, I love you too Jess,'' Dustin shouted out.

''GO!'' the three teens called out.

Suddenly the door was pushed open and the three teens tumbled to floor as the guards held their guns at them and they all put their hands up, feeling defeated.
