The next day, Jess had joined her boyfriend and best friend at 'Family Video' as Robin was rambling to them both she helped Steve stack up the videos onto the shelves from a trolley. ''Then Vickie laughed. And it wasn't like a cheap, fake laugh either, it was like... It was a real, genuine laugh,'' Robin started off her little ramble.
''Of course she laughed, it's my Muppet joke. It's hilarious,'' Steve exclaimed.
''My point is that Vickie laughed and everything was just like... it was perfect...'' Robin continued.
''But?'' Jess questioned as she grabbed a video from the trolley and placed it onto the shelf.
''But I'm having this problem where it's like, I should stop talking. I have said everything I need to say but then I guess I get nervous, and the words keep spilling out, and it's like my... my brain is moving faster than my mouth, or... or rather my... my mouth is moving faster than my brain. I'm digging this hole for myself and I want to stop digging, I'm trying to stop, but I can't. ''And I'm doing it right now, aren't I?'' Robin rambled on as Jess and Steve just eyed their friend.
''Yep,'' Jess nodded.
''You are,'' Steve agreed.
''Oh, I'm hopeless,'' Robin sighed, falling back into the wall as Jess and Steve fell back with her.
''All three of us are,'' Jess sighed.
''Maybe we could all...you know like combine as one,'' Robin suggested.
''Combine?'' Steve raised an eyebrow at the dirty blonde girl.
''Well I have the girl of my dreams but I can't find the courage to ask her out and you...you have the girl of your dreams and you had the courage to ask her out and now you're both dating so if we all combined all our problems would be solved because I mean let's face it...'' Robin explained, talking with her hands.
''We suck,'' Steve sighed.
''Totally,'' Jess sighed with her boyfriend.
''And utterly,'' Robin added.
The three continued stacking movies until Robin found her two best friends a movie, holding it up in her hands. ''Ooh, I think I found our morning movie. Doctor Zhivago,'' she exclaimed, a huge smile plastered on her cute innocent lit up face.
''Sounds good to me,'' Jess shrugged but Steve on the other hand did not like the idea.
''Oh, you know I don't do double VHS,'' Steve said.
''Why not? What's wrong with the double VHS, Stevie?'' Jess asked, raising an eyebrow at her boyfriend.
''It's about doomed love,'' Robin exclaimed.
''Oh, before Jess and I got together that was relatable,'' Steve sighed.
''Precisely,'' Robin smiled. ''Also Julie Christie is b-b-bonkers hot in this. Like, seriously the most beautiful creature I have seen in my life.''
Jess had zoned out to what her best friend and boyfriend were talking about and her eyes were now fixated on the small TV screen, she clapped her hands to her mouth when she heard that the mangled body of a Hawkins high school student was found at the trailer park. ''Holy shit, come look at this you guys,'' she exclaimed. Steve and Robin wandered over.
''Well shit...maybe the upside down is back once again,'' Steve rolled his eyes.
''Nah, you think?'' Jess asked, her eyes widening.
''Anything is possible in this small town,'' Steve sighed.
''I guess you're right,'' Jess sighed too. Why did everything always have to happen in Hawkins? Ever since 1983 Jess's life was never the same and she would never be able to catch a break, she was somewhat thankful for these events though because if none of this had occurred then she and Steve wouldn't be together and he would most likely still be that asshole she used to know.
