Jess hovered closely around Steve and Robin, who were doing the early morning news. After last night Jess and Steve hadn't spoken a single word to each other, the survivor's guilt over Max was really weighing on Jess and she hated that she couldn't be there to watch Max all day and all night. She really saw the young girl like a little sister; she was one of her and Steve's precious little nuggets. Steve had tried his hardest all morning to talk to Jess, make moves on her, try chat her up and get her to talk again but nothing worked, not even when he tried tickling her. All Jess did was robotically passing Steve the different tapes to jam into the controls with no emotion on her face whatsoever.
Every time she handed him one, Steve's fingers purposely brushed over hers, hoping to ignite that spark between them, the one that told him she didn't hate him and still loved him but she recoiled quickly every time.
"Good morning, Hawkins! This is WSQK The Squawk," Robin greeted into the microphone. Jess lightly smiled at Robin's greeting for their town, this job was practically made for Robin and no one could do it better than her, Robin Buckley was rambler.
Steve turned to look at his girlfriend, seeing that light smile in the corner of his eye made him smile. With that cheerful smile playing across his lips, he tenderly caressed his girlfriend's shoulder and gently mouthed the words, "I saw that smile, Jessie bear. You can't fool good ol' Steve Harrington." Hoping to make her at least hide a laugh but her smile faded and she continued handing him tapes.
"It's looking like a regular day in Hawkins. Fifty-five degrees, low chance of rain, medium chance of arrest, high chance of helicopters. But general banality aside, it's an exciting day for me, your friend, entertainer, and DJ, Robin Buckley, ...Nice to meet you....A.K.A Rockin' Robin. And why is it a big day for me you ask? Well, it's my 500th broadcast, Robin continued, as Jess noticed Robin's held up sign that read 'Applaud,' she nodded and handed Steve the tape that read applaud and he pushed into the control panel.
Jess patted Robin's shoulder lovingly, supporting her best friend's inspirations as she continued. "Yeah, you heard that right, folks. Five-double-O! Which means it's been even longer since you've heard the sultry voice of Jimmy "Fast Hands" Lee. But while Jimmy was fleeing Hawkins even faster than he moves those hands, yours truly was watching slackjawed as the earth split open beneath her feet and coughed up that tsunami of mysterious dandruff. And now, I'm stuck here with you, my fellow quarantine compatriots. And if I can be brutally honest, I couldn't be happier. Because when you really think about it, why would you want to live anywhere else? I mean, what town on Earth can match our very impressive military-to-civilian ratio?" Robin explained, a small chuckle leaving her lips as Steve blew a comedy whistle.
"And those free, mandatory medical checkups? I mean, very cool. 'Cause after we inhaled those springtime snowflakes, who knows what's wrong with us? Maybe we're fine, maybe not," Robin declared, as Jess handed the coughing tape to Steve and he put it in.
