Modern Feminism

Modern feminism, what has become of thee?

A quest for equality or a desire to be free?

From the roles that society once defined,

Women now seek to leave those norms behind.

But in this pursuit, have we lost our way?

Abandoning the true meaning of what we say?

For feminism is not about being a man,

But rather, it's about securing equal rights

In this new era, men too have begun to see,

The need for equality, and the importance it can be.

They no longer wish to be the sole providers,

Nor do they desire to be just the dominant insiders.

The days of the gentleman paying for dinner,

Or the man being the only breadwinner,

Are slowly fading, as women and men alike,

Realize the value of equal rights, a new light.

In the workplace, the competition is no longer,

A battle of the sexes, but rather, getting stronger.

Men and women strive to reach their full potential,

As equals in a world that was once so differential.

But somewhere along the way, we've lost sight,

Of the true meaning of our quest, of our fight.

For feminism is not about being a man,

But rather, it's about securing equal rights.
