"Whenever you're ready, Lenora."
The girl took a deep breath, cracking her neck. She tossed her jacket on a near bush, to let her scar in full display, the cold breeze of the night hitting on her skin and making shivers all over her naked part. She widened her arms, focusing; letting go of all her fears, she relaxed in the warmth of the darkness, leaving it crawling around her hands, going up her wrists, tangling on her elbows until her forearms. Closing her eyes, she fixed her mind on the scar, trying hard to push darkness out of it, not moving a finger. The first time she did it was the last week and it felt like ripping her organs out from the inside: the pain was so unbearable that she passed out two times before giving up. The second time she passed out only once and the third time a single spiral of blackness came out of it before almost knocking her out again. She trained again and again during classes and also on her time alone, but that night was the first time she was doing it in the middle of the night, thinking that darkness worked better without light around.
Her thought wasn't wrong but neither right: it was easier to summon it but harder to control it, also it hurt badly, but she didn't want to stop. That time she wasn't alone, so she felt safe pushing her body a bit over the limits.
Feeling the darkness climbing on her hips was bizarre like some long, iced snakes were clinging to her, squeezing her body. Lenora pushed her body up in the air, her feet becoming black too, and her pupils were shaking behind her closed lids. She felt her hair slowly raising and her body lighter than ever, the darkness supporting her in a way the light runes never did.
That made her feel powerful but also self-conscious; the research the teachers and Len did were clear on the dark rune. There was nothing in between: the owners must be able to submit it before the opposite occurred, leaving the darkness creeping in their minds and destroying all the light.
It'll be easier to control the peaceful rune that the light offered, but Lenora was always attracted by the danger so her goal was to be able to cast those dark runes without being scared of them or feeling outpowered by them. She needed to make them her own.
"How are you feeling?"
"Like I could either annihilate the world or myself", she had some trouble speaking and her words came out in a deep low voice, far from her usual one.
"Alright, I'll stop..."
"NO! PLEASE! AIZAWA, WAIT!", Len opened her eyes and the teacher took a step back.
Her orbits were completely black, covered in what seemed like thick black smoke. No more lilac, no more light, just pure deep black.
"Can you see me?", Aizawa asked her, concerned.
Len flew closer to the man, tilting her head, "Not exactly," she didn't feel the need to blink so her cold stare remained on the teacher for a whole minute, "I know you're here, I can see your figure," raising her hands, she tracked the line of Aizawa's body, "but I can't see your features. No eyes, no lips, nothing, just a comforting grey aura."
