CHAPTER ONE.

Hayley awakes with a loud gasp on the table, Klaus' blood still covering her mouth and neck. Elijah helps her sit up, and Klaus rubs her shoulder affectionately, "You're alright, love. You're alright." Hayley looks back at him still shaken,

"I saw him. He tried to kill me. I saw Mikael," She tells him and gets off the table leaving Klaus and Elijah behind as she goes upstairs. Hayley is sitting on her bed, thinking, when Klaus approaches her room. She notices him, but he still stops and knocks before fully entering,

"You've proved quite resilient, little wolf. Fighters, both of you," Klaus compliments her softly although the terror of the moment she was unresponsive lingers like a damp fog.

"I guess we've had to be. Especially lately," She looks at Klaus, but he is speechless, still looking at him with lowered lids and upturned eyes, "I've decided that I'm going to move back in."

Klaus softening at her words, "Well, I'm relieved to hear it."

"But no mouth-breathing bodyguards, no telling me what to do."

Klaus smiles, "All I ask is that the child is kept safe."

Hayley looks at him, "And what about me? What happens after she's born? If you try to take her away from me, I...."

"....Come with me, hm?," He heads out the door, but stops when he sees she isn't following him, "Please. I want to show you something."

Hayley reluctantly gets up and follows Klaus out the door. He takes her to another room in the compound, which he has already set up to be a nursery, complete with a crib, a bassinet, and a gorgeous mobile hanging from the ceiling, among other things. Hayley stares in surprise as she takes everything in, Klaus tells her, "Believe it or not, Hayley, I would actually like you to be here. Our daughter should be raised by her parents, in her family home."

Hayley touches the crystals hanging from the mobile, "You, me, Elijah, and miracle-baby, all under one roof? Sounds like a bad reality show," She smiles affectionately.

Klaus chuckles nervously, "Uh, you said you saw my father."

Hayley turned to look at him, "Why do you call him that? He's not your real dad."

"He's done damage only a father could do.......What did he say to you?"

Hayley smiles warmly at him, "Nothing true," She shakes her head lightly, Klaus considers this for a moment, and then genuinely smiles before leaving the room. Hayley looks at the wall, on which Klaus has hung the painting he made of New Orleans, with a large full moon painted in the sky, and she thinks about the father of her child how mercurial he is, how sweet he can be when he lets down his defenses for a moment and she wishes again for the upteenth time it was different between them, they were so alike in so many ways she understood him better when she didn't just put her wall of hate up for him and she really didn't want their baby girl coming into the world with a fighting set of parents, she wanted something better much better for her baby girl.
