I propose that when Klaus was normal / human, he fell in love with Hayley. She is a mermaid.

A/N FOR ALL THOSE READERS OVER THE YEARS WHO HAVE ASKED FOR A HAYLEY MERMAID STORY. Thanks to Manuel Aurelio Santan' idea. Here it is.

My Merpeople have the teeth of a Piranha fish when they shift for fighting, or biting.

CHAPTER ONE.

101 AD

Niklaus dragged himself dejectedly towards the river, his shirt sticking to the bloody welts on his back. He took his long boots off and untied his leather pants and walked into the cool river letting his shirt soak and soften the blood on his back. Once the fabric floated free from his back he lifted the shirt over his head and threw the shirt back onto the river bank, sinking back into the water to let the cool flow of the river soothe the sharp stinging pain from his whipped flesh. He closed his eyes as he sat in the water. He felt the whispering soothness of a feather touch over his welts. He thought he was dreaming or having delusions as his flayed back lost the painful sensation more and more until his back felt healed. His eyes snapped open and he reached his arm back to feel the flesh of his back. It was smooth and unmarked. He looked towards the river bank to see if his mother was there and had cast a healing spell on him. No, the bank was empty of a figure, he turned in the water and two large almond shaped amber and green eyes stared back at him. High cheekbones and wide full lips with a beguiling smile stared back at him. Niklaus had never seen a more stunning vision in his short life..

"H...how did you heal me," He stuttered. She licked her lips and he saw his red blood coated on her tongue.

"I healed you by licking you," Her deep husky voice explained, "Did it feel nice?" She asked sweetly.

"Y...yes it did. Why would you heal me?" He asked, puzzled.

"I felt your pain, it made me weep. I can heal so I did," She replied simply, smiling compassionately.
