CHAPTER ONE.

Klaus watched Hope with trepidation as she painted at the table set up on the sprawling area of lawn at the front of the farmhouse, she was avoiding eye contact with him, with all of them really. He turned his head as Hayley walked out of the house and scowled at her,  "What terrible things did you tell her?" He demanded of her, she stopped close to him keeping her voice low so the family seated on the otherside of the veranda couldn't hear, or Hope in the garden painting meters from them.

"I told her that you're a hybrid, like me. I also told her that you're very old. Other than that, she's seven... We can wait to share the gory details." Hayley told him softly seeing the angst and hurt in his blue eyes.

"Well, someone must have disparaged me. Perhaps that crone, Mary..." He snapped back keeping his volume down.

"Stop. I've spent five years protecting her from everything, including all the horror stories floating around about you. She doesn't know your history. What she does know is that you protect your family, no matter what." She implored honestly sincerity blazing in her hazel eyes.

"And yet she fears me," Klaus replied sadly.

"She's a sensitive kid. And you're not exactly calm right now."

Hayley grabbed his hand and held it Klaus looked at her, his eyes widening as she lifted his hand to her head and put it flat against the side of her forehead, she opened her mind to him closing her eyes. Klaus closed his eyes as the first memory of her and Hope flashed in technicolour in his mind.

Hayley in the large semi trailer, Hope strapped in her car seat beside her watching her with big wide blue eyes, Hayley looking at her with a wobbly smile, "Your Daddy is saving his family and protecting you baby, he would do anything for you Hope, you are our special girl. He loves you like he loves no other and he loves his siblings, so while Daddy is protecting you and his family, Mommy is going to take us away from here and I am going to protect you and keep you safe and help Daddy, okay," Hope grinned at her and turned her head into the carseat, her eyes drooping closed, Hayley started the truck tears coursing down her face thinking of Klaus being imprisoned and the herculean task ahead of her.

Three months have passed since Klaus turned himself in and she has been running with Hope. She didn't want to take a chance so she has barely stopped in any city for more than two days. And its effect can be seen on her baby girl, so she decided to stop for the night and think about a safe place, where Hope will be happy and safe.

She was looking at the map where Klaus had marked the places, where his safe houses are located and narrowing down the options. She looked up to see her baby girl sitting on the carpet, her toys scattered across her, but she didn't pay any attention to them. Hope had been fine for the first few days, but as the days passed she grew restless. Her eyes are always searching for her daddy, and looking at the door as if he will appear magically through the door.
