Two months later:
Chan's dark eyes burned with anger. He stared at the TV screen in disbelief. They had done everything. They had pulled out all the stops. Gotten the news spread. Spoke with investors and had their investors invest.
Willie Campbell had somehow, mysteriously, pulled ahead, and came out on top. Anger coursed through Chan's body. His fingers dug into the side of his recliner and turned white. He pulled the black loop pierced through his lip into his mouth and released it over and over again.
"Channie?"
He blinked, snapped out of his anger at once. He turned his head over towards the opposite side of the living room. Felix sat curled criss-cross applesauce on the floor. His hands sat open on his knees. His white-blond hair was neatly parted in the middle. Bright blue eyes looked up at him eagerly.
"Yes, Pup?" Chan spoke.
"Is everything going to be okay? Are we going to be okay?" He tilted his head to the side.
"Everything is going to be just fine."
He hated lying to the younger boy, but it's not like it was the first time it happened. Even though the two were only three years apart, Chan felt more like a father to Felix than an older brother. He'd do anything to keep him safe.
"But..." Felix trailed off.
"But what?"
"Willie said he'd put a stop to us."
"Plenty of presidents get into office by telling lies. Don't worry about it, Pup. He has no idea who we are or what we do. There's no way he'll figure out what we do. Besides," Chan's eyes went back to the screen.
He couldn't make out what Willie Campbell was saying, but he could imagine it perfectly. His face had stretched into a grin. His tight leather skin had wrinkled over the years. Crow's feet sat in the outer corners of his eyes. He stood in front of a microphone in his hometown. The small town mayor had worked his way through the ranks and he did it. At age fifty-two, he became president of the United States.
In Chan's head, he was already planning ways to ruin him. Sure, perhaps Willie Campbell had connections, but so did Stray Kids. The eight of them came from all different types of life. Not to mention, Chan's father had taught him well. Some men were just all bark and no bite. He had a feeling that Willie Campbell was no different.
A brisk double knock came from the back of the room. Both Chan and Felix snapped their heads back to see Lee Know standing at the edge of the living room. His eyes bore into the television that they were watching.
"I came to ask if you had seen the results of the election, but I see you've already found the update."
"Unfortunately," Felix grumbled. He frowned and glanced back at the television. If Chan hated Willie Campbell, he was going to hate him too.
Lee Know and Chan shared a look between them. Felix had been having a rough time lately. With the tension of the election looming, he had been glued to the television. Watching interviews between candidates. He had been non-stop straining his eyes and filling up notebooks full of information about Willie Campbell.
It was all Chan's fault. He had been gifted his father's anger. It was one of the very few emotions he ever showed. Like a curse, it had worked its way down to Felix after they started living together. The two of them had been close for the past five years. It was only fair that some of the anger had rubbed off on him.
"Is I.N doing anything right now?" Chan turned his attention back to Lee Know.
"I'm pretty sure he's working on some new type of explosive."
"Hey, Pup?"
Felix didn't take his eyes off the TV screen. Chan picked up the remote from beside him and flicked it off. Felix instantly looked over at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Why don't you hang out with I.N? The two of you can blow something up."
Felix's eyes widened as they sparkled with excitement, "really?"
"Really."
"Like what?"
Chan glanced over at Lee Know. Besides being a spy, Lee Know was pretty good at keeping records of things. Even when he was away from his files, he had a sharp memory. He knew the people that crossed them and why.
"Someone's been wandering around the art gallery lately. They've been there the past three days from opening until closing. Hyunjin mentioned it the other day. They keep trying to hide themselves with different disguises, but it's not working. He keeps driving around the same gray colored SUV. It's starting to become suspicious."
"Really? I guess someone should take care of that."
"Can we?" Felix asked. He flashed Chan a pair of puppy dog eyes and pushed his lips out into a pout.
"Is he still there today?" Chan asked.
Lee Know nodded.
"Well, you heard the man. Go tell I.N that the two of you have a car to blow up. Take Changbin with you since he knows how to hot-wire a car. Make sure you take your ear-pieces, so we can communicate with each other. Got it?"
Felix nodded and pushed himself up, "thanks, Channie."
"Have fun, Pup."
Chan watched him run out of their living room. The second he was gone, he turned the TV back on, and turned up the volume. Anger filled him all over again as Willie waved to the crowd and began signing things for his supporters.
"You should probably go blow something up too," Lee Know joked.
Chan flicked the TV off again. "Keep an eye on him, will you? I've got other things to do, but if he becomes too much of a threat, he'll have to be dealt with."
Lee Know dipped his head down in a slight bow.
"Of course, boss."
