Kiera realized she fucked up the moment she woke up in an unfamiliar room. Although she had been unconscious for hours, her stomach churned. She squeezed her eyes shut and silently prayed that the urge to vomit would go away. Perhaps this was why her parents had never let her venture off without knowing where she was.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
The thought circled over and over in her head. She had to give Hwang Hyunjin credit. He had been charming from the start and he got her good. She never expected anything like this to happen to her. She sucked in a deep breath and forced herself to sit up.
She was laying on a twin sized mattress. Whoever had laid her down, they hadn't bothered to tuck her into the bed. They had placed her on top of the maroon comforter and left without a word. Behind her, sat two pillows with maroon pillowcases. The rest of the small room was blank besides white walls. No window, no desk, no closet; nothing.
A few feet away, there was a wooden door. She pulled herself up on shaky feet and stumbled over to it. She attempted to turn the knob, but it was locked. The door had been locked from the outside. She gritted her teeth and forced herself to turn away before she started banging on the door.
The whole room gave her nothing to work with. It's not like she could beat her kidnapper to death with a pillow. She might be able to choke them with a pillowcase, but that was only a good idea if they were weak. If they were strong, she might be better off trying to befriend them first.
Her eyes went up towards the ceiling. She spun around in a slow circle. The ceiling was the same color as the rest of the room; blinding white. However, there was a light fixture in the middle of the room. There wasn't a light switch on the inside walls, so it must have been able to be controlled from outside the room.
If someone was watching her, she couldn't see them. Whether it was the uncertainty of the situation or she truly was being watched, she didn't know, but a cloud of paranoia hung over her head. She dropped her head from the ceiling and glanced back towards the bed.
The sound of the door opening caused her to jump. She spun around on her heel and took a few steps back. Hyunjin stood tall in the doorway. His dark eyes met hers and he grinned. "Good morning sleeping beauty."
"Morning?"
He nodded, "it's Sunday morning. You've been sleeping all night. I'm sure you're confused and have questions. Don't worry, you'll hear the answers soon enough."
"Was that your plan the whole time?"
"What?"
"Pretending that you liked me?"
"I was pretending at first," he shrugged. "It's not like I had a choice, you do what you're told in this group. However, I do think you're interesting and I'd love to be your friend."
Kiera scoffed, "what kind of friend kidnaps another friend?"
"Well, I can name one person who was kidnapped by their friend and they got over it pretty quickly."
She rolled her eyes.
"Anyway, I came to get you so you can be interrogated."
"Interrogated?"
"Did I stutter?"
"For what?"
"Do you really not know? You're the president's daughter. You probably know almost everything about him. From his strengths to his weaknesses, it's all right here." He walked forward and tapped the front of Kiera's forehead.
"Don't touch me!" She smacked his hand away.
He let out a chuckle and shook his head. "Feisty, huh? I'm sure Changbin will enjoy that if it comes down to it."
"What are you talking about? Who's Changbin?"
"You'll find out soon enough. Would you like breakfast or not? You haven't eaten anything for hours and I'm sure you're hungry. Plus, it'll help get rid of some of that leftover haze you have from being knocked out."
"Did you drug the food like you drugged me?"
Hyunjin placed his hands on his hips. "I'm trying to be nice to you! Why are you making this so difficult? There aren't many kidnappers out there that are willing to feed their victims!"
"You lured me out of my house under the guise of friendship and knocked me out! I don't know where I am. I don't know what your intentions are. I don't even know what time it is! Why the fuck would I trust you?"
"The rules are relatively simple here, Kiera." Hyunjin crossed his arms over his chest. His piercing gaze caused her to take a step back. "Just do what you're told and you won't get hurt. It's that simple, so stop overthinking it. Your safety is in your own hands from this point on."
"And if I don't do what I'm told?"
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. The devil's son doesn't play fair. It doesn't matter how pretty you are. You're just a disposable obstacle in this game."
Her face scrunched up in confusion, "huh?"
"I'm on your side here, I swear. Just do what you're told or you'll be in a world of hurt. Consider this my final offer to you. Do you want breakfast or not?"
"Fine."
"Good, let's go."
And with that, Hyunjin grabbed her hand in his, and began pulling her along.
