Affair

The next morning, Lee Know opened the stainless steel fridge in the kitchen and clicked his tongue. He placed a hand on his chin and glanced around at the food inside. Living in a house with eight different men required a lot of different groceries and a lot of variety. Some of them preferred to indulge in their fair share of junk food whereas others preferred meat and vegetables.

In the very beginning, living together had been difficult. Some of them got up in the early morning and some slept in late. Schedules clashed together constantly. When working together, someone was too tired because they didn't get enough sleep. Someone else was bright eyed and bushy-tailed, nearly bouncing on the balls of their feet.

He grabbed two cartons of eighteen dozen eggs and two packs of bacon before he went to work. He didn't mind making everyone food and doing the dishes. Not when he got paid for it. When he wasn't undercover, he was making food. It was an easy way to release a lot of pent up stress.

Chan had taken Hyunjin out for coffee nearly twenty minutes beforehand. Apparently, the two of them were going to discuss some things. Lee Know hadn't bothered to ask for further information. He was sure someone would inform him when the time was right.

"Good morning," a deep voice came from the side of the room.

He glanced up to see Felix waddling towards him with a blanket wrapped around his shoulders. He wiggled himself onto a bar stool across the way, so he could watch Lee Know cook. It was one of his favorite pasttimes.

"Morning." Grabbing a skillet, Lee Know placed it on the stove-top, and turned the burner on to preheat. Tuning out the younger man, he grabbed a mixing bowl, and began cracking eggs into it. He was going to make scrambled eggs and bacon. If anyone wanted toast, they'd have to be the ones who made it. His kindness only went so far.

A large yawn came out of Felix's mouth. He placed an elbow on the table and put his chin in his hand. Still half-asleep, his eyes were only half open.

"Are you okay?"

"I'm tired," Felix mumbled. "I had another nightmare again."

"Do you want to talk about it?"

"No."

"Do you want to hook your phone up to the portable speaker and play some music?"

He nodded and slid his phone out of the pocket of his sweatpants.

Lee Know truly felt bad for him. They had all known each other's pasts. Out of everyone's, Felix had struck him right in the heart. He couldn't imagine what it must have felt like for him. In a few years, it'd be a decade since the murder of his parents. He still couldn't shake the nightmares from it.

It was a painful reminder that life was cruel sometimes. You could try and try and try and sometimes you'd be beat down again. No matter how good a person might be, life can sometimes have other plans. It's a twisted game that everyone is forced to play against their will.

A bittersweet reminder that Lee Know had gotten a good life. At least, as good as it could have been. He grew up being taken care of by a single mother. She raised him as best as she could until a few years ago when she was killed in a car accident.

By that point, Lee Know had just met Chan. The two had been talking for a few weeks and Lee Know was living in an apartment by himself. When his mom died, she left him her house, and all of her money. The house had been bought years ago by his grandparents.

When they died, it was passed to his mother. When she died, it was gifted to him. There was no way that he was going to sell it. Not when it had been in the family for so long. The house was spacious with four bedrooms and two bathrooms.

When Chan mentioned something about investing in a place and building on to the start of his gang, Lee Know offered his place. At that time, it had only been Chan, Felix, and himself. As the group grew, so did the house. They added a few new sections to it; more bedrooms, an indoor gym, and a pool out back.

They upgraded the appliances to make them more modern and that was how their house was created. It wasn't just a house, it was a home. So many holidays and birthdays had been spent there.

Not everyone had a good home life. Not everyone still had living parents. The eight of them, with different types of trauma and scars, had been brought together. Chan had found the majority of them with the exception of Han. Lee Know had known Han from his previous job and mentioned him to Chan; who happened to jump at the chance.

So there they were, eight spiders with tangled webs. Lives intertwined in the best and worst ways possible. Webs reaching far and wide around the country. As the years had gone by, their connections had deepened. In the crime industry, connections are everything.

The sound of running footsteps caused Lee Know to turn around. Felix glanced up from his phone. Seungmin stopped in front of the kitchen counter with a handful of papers. He panted as he held up the stack. Lee Know raised an eyebrow.

"W-where is-" He struggled to form proper words. "Where is Chan?"

"Good morning to you too. He's with Hyunjin and the two of them are having a meeting at a cafe. Why?" Lee Know turned back towards his pan and began stirring the half cooked eggs.

"He needs to come home! I've been up all night looking for something to get back at the president and I found something."

"What did you find?" Felix asked. He had placed his phone down on the counter top. He leaned forward in his seat with wide eyes gleaming with excitement.

"Bev Campbell, she-" He took in a sharp breath.

"Spit it out," Lee Know encouraged.

"She had an affair a few months ago."

"Oh?" His eyes widened in slight shock.

"That's not the best part."

Felix leaned further towards him, "tell us more."

"She had an affair with the current vice president."
