Light it up

"I hate working out and I hate sweating. I hate everyone and everything!" Hyunjin clenched his teeth together and lifted the bar above his head a final time.

Behind him, Changbin stood unamused with his arms crossed. "If you moved the rest of your body as much as you bitched, you'd be done with this by now."

"Fuck off!" Hyunjin snapped. He dropped the bar and it slammed back onto its holder. He jerked his back off the weight bench and grumbled beneath his breath. Changbin chuckled and walked over to I.N. The youngest member of the group was steadily lifting two barbells and completing a set of curl-ups.

The two of them began to talk among each other while Hyunjin crossed his own arms and sat on the bench. His forearms burned. Sweat caused his black sleeveless shirt to cling tight to his body. He let out a huff and tried to catch his breath. He hated working out. He only did it to stay in shape. After a few moments, he shoved himself up and glanced over at the other two men. "I'm going to take a shower."

"Giving up already?" I.N teased.

Hyunjin responded by flipping him off and storming out the door. The three men had stayed up late to work out. For Changbin and Hyunjin, this wasn't new. I.N had recently been following Changbin around lately and the two had been attached at the hip.

"Maybe I can finally work out in peace now." Changbin walked over to the weight bench and laid back on it. I.N laughed as he watched him.

It felt good to be home. Out of the Bella-Nova and the warehouse, back where they belonged. In the middle of the Chicago suburbs where they blended in as usual. To their neighbors, they were a close group of friends. Their true identities remained hidden. As long as they treated their neighbors with respect, nobody ever questioned them.

Chan and Lee Know teamed up a year ago and designed a large indoor gym. It was originally planned to be placed into the warehouse, but after a large snowstorm, they realized it'd be better if it was constantly accessible. Everyone used it for different reasons. Some lifted weights, some used the treadmill, and some used the step-up machine. Yoga balls, resistance bands, jump ropes, a large wall of mirrors, etc. The indoor gym cost a pretty penny.

I.N walked over to the treadmill. For nearly an hour, he had pushed his body to the max. Soaked with sweat, he planned on spending the next few minutes cooling down on the treadmill. He reached out to press a button on the treadmill, but he stopped when a phone rang. His head snapped to the side.

"Is that your phone?" Changbin asked.

"It's not yours?"

"Nope."

I.N frowned and headed towards the phone that was face down on the floor. As he got closer, he recognized the phone case as Hyunjin's. Who could be calling this late at night? It was after two in the morning. He grabbed the phone and glanced at the screen.

"Who is it?" Changbin asked.

"I don't think it's anything good." He swiped across the screen and answered the phone. "Hello?"

"Is this Hwang Hyunjin?"

"This is one of his friends. He's currently away from his phone. Can I help you with something?"

"Is there a way that you could put him on the phone? It's an emergency."

"Uh..." He trailed off for a moment. "Yeah, I can get him. Give me a few moments to find him."

"That'd be great, thank you."

Changbin raised an eyebrow, but I.N ignored him. A wave of anxiety washed over him. He exited the gym and disappeared out into the hallway. It took a few seconds to get to Hyunjin's room. The door was already opened, but his bathroom door was shut. I.N reached down and muted the phone call and he knocked on the door.

The sound of the shower mixed with Hyunjin's soft singing. I.N rolled his eyes and knocked on the door louder. The singing came to a halt and there was a loud huff. "Go away! I'm busy!"

"It's an emergency!" I.N called out.

The sound of water turned off.

"Can I come in?"

"Fine, just don't peek."

I.N shook his head and turned the door knob. The moment the door was opened, he was hit by warmth. Hyunjin always took scorching hot showers. "What do you want?" Hyunjin asked. He was hidden behind a navy blue shower curtain.

"You left your phone in the gym. Your security company wants to talk to you. They said it was an emergency. I have them on the phone right now."

Hyunjin's arm popped out of the edge of the shower curtain. I.N hit the unmute button on the phone and handed it to him. Hyunjin pulled his arm back into the shower and started to speak into the phone. I.N wanted to stay and listen to the conversation, but he turned away. He grabbed the door and disappeared back into Hyunjin's bedroom.

He pulled out his own phone and sat down on the edge of Hyunjin's bed. Surely, whatever it was, Hyunjin could tell him after he finished showering. He started to unlock his phone, but a noise caused him to glance up. Hyunjin came flying out of the bathroom with a beige towel secured around his waist. He clutched the ends of it together with one hand. Foamy white suds sat in his hair.

I.N blinked in shock.

"Where's Chan?" Hyunjin's eyes were wide.

"Uh h-he's um he's in his room. Why? What's going on?"

Hyunjin didn't respond. He sprinted out of his room and took off across the house. I.N stood up and hurried after him. Hyunjin didn't knock when he got to Chan's room. He flung the door open which caused Chan to look up in shock. He was on his bed scrolling through his phone.

"Chan, thank god you're awake! We've gotta get to the Bella-Nova!"

Chan raised an eyebrow. He scanned Hyunjin's appearance and glanced over at I.N. He shrugged and Chan looked back at Hyunjin. "What's going on?"

"The building security company called me. There was a suspicious person lingering around the building. They saw him toss a few things around the perimeter, but they had no idea what they were. They were going to call the cops, but I told them no."

"Kiera and Felix a-"

"Han stayed the night there too," I.N added. "They're all in the back of the building."

"They sent me the footage of him dropping things. It could be nothing, but I don't wanna risk it. If the cops get there and find Kiera th-"

"Then we're all fucked. I'll call them to tell them we're coming." Chan pulled up his contact list and hit Han's number.

"Can I see the footage?" I.N asked. His curiosity was starting to take over. Hyunjin nodded, pressed a few buttons on his phone, and handed it over to I.N. I.N took the phone and began to watch the scene before him.

The night-vision view of the cameras caught the man with ease. In darkened clothing with a ski mask slipped over his face, he kept pulling things out of a backpack, and dropping them around the building. I.N squinted and pulled the camera closer to his face.

"They kind of look like small pop cans. I guess he could be littering, but it seems suspicious."

I.N's heart dropped as he paused the video and read the label on the can. "C-Chan?"

Chan glanced over at I.N. He was still trying to get someone to answer their phone. Han hadn't picked up, so now he was calling Felix. "What is it?"

"Tell them to get out of the building and away from there."

"Why?"

"These are bombs."

"How do you know that?" Hyunjin asked.

He swallowed and forced himself to respond.

"Because I made them."
