When Willie turned around to see what happened, the shock hit him first. He couldn't stop his mouth from dropping open. Murmurers and whispers cut through the crowd. Snapping him back into reality, red hot rage cut through him.
This was going to cause conspiracies. This was going to cause confusion and chaos. The media was going to eat this up. The spray painted words mocked him. His nails dug into his fists as he clenched his hands into fists at his sides.
"Those fucking bastards!" He screamed. "I'll kill them! I'll fucking kill them!" He turned around and slammed his fist down into his podium. Something inside of him had snapped completely. Even with his daughter dead and out of the way, they were still taunting him.
Questions were tossed out into the air by the crowd of reporters. All of them were now standing with the microphones reached out. The cameras live streaming everything hadn't cut off yet. They had only zoomed in to get his reaction.
Willie shoved the wooden podium forward and it tipped over with a loud crash. A chunk of wood fell off and flew towards the feet of a reporter. Willie lifted his black dress shoe and began kicking it. The reporters watched his meltdown in shock until he was quickly dragged away by Philip.
In the back of the Bella-Nova, Kiera watched the TV screen in shock. She had never seen her dad become unhinged in public before. He had always made an effort to keep himself put together. This was way out of his character.
The eight Stray Kids members had different reactions to his outburst. A few of them burst out laughing. They had even gotten Han to chuckle. Lee Know and him had returned a few hours ago from their DC excursion.
Just as Chan wanted, the two of them had worn latex masks and posed as two secret service agents. They had been tasked with setting up the background for Willie's press conference. Since they were posing as secret service members, they looked exactly like the real members due to the masks, nobody questioned them.
They had met someone Chan buddied around with on the inside and he showed them what to do. Apparently, Chan trusted him enough that he supposedly wouldn't expose their secret. Han thought it was a bad idea, but Chan insisted that he had enough blackmail on the guy that if he spoke about Chan having Kiera, he'd go after everyone the guy loved.
The pair had spent half their evening spray painting the wooden background and figuring out what to write on it. Once the paint dried, they covered it up with the American flag. After spending the rest of their shift patrolling, they took back off to Chicago.
"So yesterday when Hyunjin wanted to paint a bullet wound on my head..." Kiera started.
"We took a photo of you and made it seem like you were dead, yeah," Changbin shrugged. "We sent it over and pretended that you were really dead."
"You said no body, no crime though?"
"He blamed us without physically having a dead body. Honestly, we just wanted to fuck with him. He has photos of you looking dead, but it's not difficult to photo-shop. He's speculating and the general public should know that."
"But sometimes the general public are fucking idiots," Seungmin mumbled.
Kiera's eyes went back to the screen. The live video of her father being pulled away by Philip finally cut out. The screen shot back to a shocked looking news reporter. She pulled her eyes away from the screen again. "So what happens now?"
"Now we're going to use you," Chan's dark eyes glanced over towards her. "This is the part where you finally come in. The fake bullet wound in your head was only the beginning."
"I don't like the sound of that."
"You're going to start telling the American people just who your father really is. You're going to start by telling the truth about Stray Kids with proof and we'll go from there. You're going to be the key to bringing down your father. You're going to tell them about everything."
"What exactly am I going to tell them? There's not much to say."
"You grew up with a narcissistic, egotistical, asshole of a father. You had two parents that controlled your every move. I'm sure you have plenty of truths. America is your stage and you'll finally have a chance to speak your truth. Tell the world who Willie Campbell is and tell them who Beverly Campbell was."
Kiera frowned, "don't you think this is a bit dramatic?"
"We fight fire with fire. I don't fuck around when it comes to my group. Loyalty lies deep here. Your father wants to expose us for ridding the world of criminals. Don't you understand how dangerous politics can become? It's not just about the left and right, it can make people do crazy things. You of all people should know that," Chan snapped.
"If anyone in this group dies because of your father trying to figure out who we are," Chan's jaw clenched. "That's the day he dies. If any of us end up in prison because of that bastard," his voice spat with venom.
Lee Know reached over and squeezed his shoulder to calm him down. "What he's trying to say is that we're a family here and nobody messes with our family. If you come after one of us, you come after all of us."
"If you fuck around," Seungmin started.
"You find out," Felix and I.N quoted him together.
"I'm really nervous," Kiera finally admitted. "What if people don't believe me?"
"Of course some of them won't, but some will," Changbin cut in. "A little goes a long way here. If we destroy your father's reputation with the public, most of them will stop believing the bullshit he spews, and he'll stop trying to find us. Besides, do you really think you're alone in this?"
"He's right," Hyunjin nodded. "There's multiple people out there who are stuck in shitty lives because of their parents. A lot of them are still kids that suffer emotional and physical abuse. Some of those scars will never heal and sometimes people could use a light in the darkness. That could be you, Kiera."
Felix crawled over towards Kiera and placed his chin on top of her kneecap. "Don't be nervous, we'll all be right here beside you. We believe in you."
"Actually some of us wo-"
"Seungmin, shut up!"
