"Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to give a little speech." Willie Campbell stood up at the far end of the table.
He had wanted to sit near Han and Lee Know, but he ended up moving. Someone down at the opposite end of the table wanted to discuss something with him. The quiet conversation diluted itself as he continued to speak. He faced the group of people with a glass of red wine tipped out towards them.
"First of all, I'd like to thank all of you for coming out this afternoon. I know some of you traveled to get here, so I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. Now that I'm finally in the white house I-"
Several cheers went up around the room instantly. A grin slid over Willie's face as he tilted his wine glass up in a cheer. His wife beamed at him from the opposite side of the table. Meanwhile, Kiera Campbell couldn't force herself to pretend anymore. She was tired and the back of her heels still ached from torn blisters.
She glanced down at her empty plate with an unamused look. Across from her, Han caught onto this and then looked away not wanting her to realize he was staring. Shouldn't she be happy if her father was in the white house?
"This luncheon was partially planned by my lovely wife. We have a big belief in helping the less fortunate and that's one of my main goals as president. I want to help fix up the country. However, I also have a very big problem and I'm sure that some of you already know what topic I'm going to be bringing up next."
The room seemed to go silent as everyone held their breaths.
"Two nights ago, I had another one of my friends fall victim to a Stray Kids' smear campaign. My buddy, Rod, is currently sitting in jail right now on charges of drug trafficking. I'm not sure how it happened, but Rod is the single father of two beautiful little girls. Due to the smear campaign, those girls might not see their father for a while. They're being taken care of by their grandmother, but that's not the point."
"I am personally offering up a reward of a million dollars if you can help figure out who they are. We don't know how many there are. We don't know where they're located. All we know is that they're out there and their smear campaigns are getting bigger as time goes on. I'm sure they feel threatened since they know I'm coming for them. I won't stop until every single one of them is in jail."
Lee Know forced himself to remain relaxed. So that's what this was about? Not a lunch about charity work, it was more focused on rewarding people if they could help him figure out who the group was. He wanted to roll his eyes. Bang Chan's father had been the most wanted criminal in America for four years up until his death. Even then, his death had been an accident.
What made Willie Campbell and his million dollars think he'd easily find them? A million dollars was small compared to their millions. Beside him, he felt Han's knee stiffen against his. He forced himself to slightly nudge his foot. A silent warning to get himself together.
"You all work with a lot of people to make your charities run. I would truly hate to see any of you ending up finished due to a smear campaign too. You've got to help us out before it's too late. I'm sure you've seen it, our country is starting to divide. There are some people out there supporting Stray Kids. We can't let that number grow bigger."
Lee Know bit down on the inside skin of his lower lip. That's what happened when you brought attention to a group who brought justice into the world. He talked about them and gave them country-wide attention. He added fuel to the fire, so he shouldn't have been surprised because the fire started to grow.
It's not like Ron was an innocent man. Stray Kids had been tipped off by one of his employees. Apparently Ron had been trafficking cocaine into America via cruise ships. Owner of one of the largest cruise ship companies in America, someone had asked for a raise, and Ron got snarky.
So they gave up everything anonymously. Photographs, locations where exchanges were given, so on, and so forth. All it took was a few cruises from Stray Kids, and sure enough, over time, they had all their information. They shipped it off to the FBI. It took a while for the FBI to do something. They had to do their undercover work too.
Last night, they finally issued the arrest warrant, and found Rod tipsy at a bar. His own personal stash of cocaine had been in his pocket. A minor drug possession charge added to his never ending stack of charges.
"So cheers," Willie lifted up his wine glass. "Cheers to charity work and cheers to the end of Stray Kids."
Mumbled agreements came from around the room. Han silently pulled up his own wine glass and mumbled a cheer. Right as Lee Know lifted his and glanced back at the president, Willie was already looking at him. Without fear, Lee Know held his glass up before him, and made eye contact with him.
"To the end of Stray Kids."
