It was a miracle when Chan laid on Kiera's lap and fell asleep. Her fingers brushed through his messy hair. Her back was pressed up against the inner arm of the leather couch. She bit down on the inside of her cheek and continued to play with Chan's hair.
His lips were half-parted and long closed eyelashes pressed against the tops of his cheeks. Internally, she hoped he stayed like this for a while. It was better for him to be asleep. His soft snores filled the silence. She wasn't sure how much sleep he received last night.
"I just posted that video," Seungmin's voice came a few minutes later.
Kiera looked up to find him standing in the opening of the hall. She glanced down at Chan once more and nodded. Her voice was nearly a whisper. "Did it go alright?"
"Yeah. I had to edit out the part where Chan left the room, but that was it. With a few clicks, I removed it and posted it."
"Good."
Seungmin stood silent for a few more moments. He placed his hands in his denim jacket. Editing the video, he was forced to listen to Kiera talk for nearly ten minutes. While editing it, he began feeling bad for some of the things he said to her.
Kiera paid no attention to him as she went back to Chan. She brushed a piece of hair out of his eyes. One of her hands was wrapped in his. She brushed her thumb over the top of his thumb hoping it'd bring comfort to whatever he was dreaming about.
"Kiera?"
She glanced over to look at Seungmin.
"I'm sorry."
A frown filled her face, "for what?"
"All the teasing and bickering I put you through. I think you're still dealing with a lot from your past and I-"
"Stop."
Seungmin closed his mouth.
"I don't mind your teasing. Honestly, I really like it. Growing up, I always wanted siblings, but my parents only had me. I've heard some people say older brothers do a lot of teasing. You're kind of like the older brother I never had."
"Really?"
"Uh-huh. Just know if you tease me, I'm going to tease and heckle you back."
"Your comebacks aren't nearly as good as mine."
"Jealousy is a disease."
"I'm not jealous of your fourth-grade level comebacks."
The two paused as Chan rolled in Kiera's lap. His right cheek squished into Kiera's thigh. She sent a single squeeze to his hand and began twirling a strand of hair around her finger.
"Ew. Anyway, I should go help try to find Felix. I bet he's at that one arcade we like to visit with I.N."
"Don't forget your ear piece."
"Yes, mother."
Kiera rolled her eyes and Seungmin snickered as he left the room. He was happy he didn't have to give up teasing her. Ruffling Kiera's feathers always made him amused. He grabbed the ear piece from his room, placed it in his ear, and disappeared out the front door. He made sure to shut the door gently instead of slamming it shut.
Kiera let out a sigh once she was alone with Chan. Her eyes slid down to his face again. He was so peaceful when he was like this. She couldn't imagine all the stress he fought through on a day to day basis. From planning to keeping everyone safe to investigating new targets and crimes; it was unfathomable.
She bent down and placed a kiss in the middle of his forehead. As her hair brushed against the side of his cheek, his nose twitched. A smile stretched across his face. She wished the two of them could stay like this forever.
Meanwhile, forty-one-thousand feet up in the air, Felix was strapped into the leather seat of a private jet. His head slung backwards in the beige leather seat. Lucas Marvin was nice enough to recline the seat back. Two egg shell colored zip ties had been wrapped around Felix's limp wrists and secured around each other.
Lucas sat beside him texting Willie on his smartphone. The woman who asked Felix if he'd like to get coffee sat behind him. The two had been on a mission to retrieve Felix. They spent two days searching Chicago for him. Nobody knew his name or his whereabouts. The only thing they could go off of was a photo Marvin snapped of him when he wasn't looking.
It was a miracle that the lady found him on the sidewalk. It was an unfortunate coincidence, really. They pulled a few feet ahead of the man while he was running. She parked and Lucas got out and stepped behind the vehicle.
Unaware of the looming danger when Felix stopped, he didn't realize Lucas was creeping up behind him. Before Felix realized what was about to happen, it was too late. Lucas jammed a syringe filled with Propofol into his neck. Within seconds, Felix slumped in his arms unconscious.
With the help of his co-worker, the pair shoved Felix into the van and headed off for their private run-way. There was no way they could deliver the unconscious man to the white house in a normal airplane. Willie wanted to speak with Felix one-on-one and Lucas promised him he'd bring him a Stray Kids member.
Lucas glanced over at Felix again. He kept glancing over wondering when he'd wake up. In another few hours, they'd be landing at a private landing pad in DC. He shifted in his seat and glanced out the window.
"You know, he looks awfully small and young to be a full grown man. Are we sure we didn't just kidnap a random boy off Chicago's Main Street?"
"Yeah, I'm sure. My father made notes about everything he saw. If this was a kid, he'd be living with his parents and attending school."
"We're supposed to believe the man who went on his own personal investigation and got himself killed?"
"Shut the fuck up, Suzie."
