"Can we go back?" Chan lowered his voice.
"No, they're probably already waiting back in the white house for us." Kiera squeezed Chan's hand a little tighter. A sharp pain came from the cuts, but she ignored it.
"We can't go to the side. They already have their guns trained on us and there's too many of them. No matter which way we go, we're screwed."
"No, we're not." Kiera kept her eyes on Lucas. She stood straight like there was a rod cemented into her spine. "When the time is right, blow it sky high." Her anger was creeping back up. That inner rage craved blood.
"You're sure?" Chan's hand reached into his pocket.
His fingers gripped the button I.N gave him. The small remote was no bigger than a car key. It fit perfectly in his palm. All he had to do was press a small button and it'd set every single bomb off.
"Give 'em hell."
Lucas and his clan marched closer to the couple. Kiera refused to let go of Chan's hand. No matter what happened, she wouldn't let this tear them apart. When she drunkenly mentioned she could live with Chan forever, she meant it. No matter what happened, she would not allow herself to break down again.
She would not break herself down to fulfill others. She would not cut herself into smaller pieces to make herself more manageable. If people didn't like how she was, they could choke; Lucas Wilson included.
"Put your hands up!" Lucas barked. His gun was pointed directly at Chan's chest. "Both of you put your hands up where I can see them."
Chan and Kiera didn't move from their spot. Chan glanced over at Kiera and she sighed. She didn't let go of Chan's hand, but she slowly began to put up her other hand. Chan followed in suit, but he kept the remote curled between his fingers.
"Put your other hands up! Let go of each other and put them up!"
"Why can't you let us go?" Kiera asked.
"You are with a criminal! I found your father's body, Kiera. Do you have any idea what this man did? Do you understand who you're siding with right now?"
"You think that was him?" An amused smile filled her face.
"What?"
"He wasn't the one that did that."
Lucas' gun slid down slightly. "What the hell are you talking about? Kiera, what the fuck did you do?" He looked her in the eye.
"At some point, you have to learn how to fight back against the people who keep you caged."
There were a few whispers around Lucas. The secret service members were hidden in the dark. All of them were dressed in black suits, dress pants, and black dress shoes. The rest of the guns didn't falter.
"What the hell did you do? Do you know what this means for you?" Lucas shook his head and frowned. "Come forward and I can get you out of this. Leave that man and come closer to me."
"No."
"I'm trying to help you here!"
"I don't want your help! I could have used your help a long time ago and you know what? You didn't help me! Your father ripped me away from the only people who cared about me!"
"Stray Kids?"
"Took you long enough."
"You're so much more brainwashed than I thought." He let out a sigh and raised his gun back up. "Do you think you can win like this? At least, drop yourselves onto the ground. We can talk and figure this out. You don't have to do this, Kiera. You still have a chance to redeem yourself."
"I'm done redeeming myself."
"Boss, he has something in his hand!" Someone called out.
Lucas glanced over to Chan's hand and squinted. "What the hell is that?"
Chan stared blankly at Lucas without responding. Lucas shifted on his feet uncomfortably. His eyes darted from Chan's curled hand to Kiera and back to Chan's hand. A wave of dread washed over him.
"Whatever is in your hand, I suggest you put it down."
"Or what?"
"Are you fucking stupid? We have guns! Do you have a death wish or something?" Lucas wanted to jerk at his hair. These two were staring down the barrels of multiple guns and yet they weren't scared like they should have been. He didn't understand what was running through their heads.
Kiera glanced up at Chan and Chan glanced down at her. The two of them didn't have to exchange a single word. Kiera's hand tightened around Chan's. His finger hit the button on the remote. Someone in the line up saw and fired their gun.
That single reaction caused a rapid chain of events to occur. More gunshots filled the air. Chan and Kiera never took their eyes off each other. Behind them the ground rumbled with a single boom. It was quiet until there was the unfathomable sound of whizzing. An ear-piercing eagle screech followed.
Like the fourth of July, the sky filled with an array of bright colors.
