The man Chan killed hadn't lied, shockingly. There really were nine people in the forest. Dressed in camouflage pants, black combat boots, and navy green shirts. They walked around in pairs investigating the forest floor. Kicking through twigs and dusting through dirt, they found nothing, and they wouldn't find anything.
Chan's eyebrows furrowed while he watched them. He took his time flicking through the trail cameras in the forest from a large computer monitor. The people, a mixture of men and women, were all unaware they were being watched. When the video cameras were installed, Chan made sure they were installed in the actual trees to conceal them.
The cameras weren't hanging off branches. With the advancement of technology, Chan had the cameras installed beneath overhanging tree joints; the spot where branches connected with trees. Since spring was in full force, the large maple trees began to bloom. Buds sprawled out in every direction.
Unfortunately, navy green didn't blend in with the light green buds. Even with the darkened brown, every member was easily spotted in the woods. Chan continued clicking through each frame trying to pin-point the groups. They were spread throughout the forest, so finding them wouldn't be easy.
"What is our game plan?" I.N asked from behind Chan.
The remaining group members stood behind Chan taking in the scenes. Chan pulled his lip-piercing into his mouth before releasing it. "They're all spread out enough, I think we should be able to get them easily. However, using a gun isn't the way to go about this. It'll draw attention and they'll leave."
"I can't use fire in this situation. With all the trees, I'd accidentally set it ablaze. Even if I targeted the flames and fired, if they hit the ground shriveling in flames, their movement could light up the forest floor." I.N scanned the screens before turning to Chan.
"I have a silencer for some guns," Changbin offered.
"No way," Lee Know shook his head. "Too risky. They're all in pairs besides that single group of three. Let's say they have bullet proof vests. If you shoot them in their heads, you risk the other one pulling out his gun and trying to shoot you."
"We could pair up and do it the old fashioned way," I.N shrugged. "Slit their throats or strangle them after sneaking up behind them."
Hyunjin shivered and Han's face scrunched up in disgust. When it came to disposing and killing, Han and Hyunjin were the two that refused to get their hands dirty unless they had to. Hyunjin hated blood and, even if they needed to, killing people made Han feel guilty. He usually left most of the killing up to Chan and Changbin.
"What if we did both?" Changbin tried again. "We go out there with knives, but if something goes wrong, we have guns with silencers for backup. We can wear our own body armor and sneak up on them."
"I suppose that'd work," Chan sighed and flipped through the screens again. "I'm a little impressed by their sheer stupidity. Working for one of the most prestigious groups, at the top of the government's food chain, you'd think they'd have some intellect stored up in their thick-skulls."
"Well, their leader did end up on his own private mission by himself. He definitely wasn't the brightest crayon in the box. I don't know why he thought that was a good idea."
Lee Know's head shot up, "wait."
Chan spun around in his chair to face him.
"Didn't you say the guy you tortured said he was on a special mission from the president?"
Chan nodded.
"So maybe they're not as stupid as we assume. Maybe they're working under the president's command and he's the idiotic one?"
"That checks out," Seungmin agreed.
"Alright," Chan stood up. "Let's gear up and get ready to send out the cavalry. Seungmin and I.N, together as usual?" The pair nodded. "Lee Know, I'll team up with you. Changbin, yo-"
"I'll be alone like I always am."
Chan was used to it by now. Changbin always wanted to go off on his own and work alone. It was the way he worked best. Chan hated it, at first, but eventually he grew used to it.
"Alright, you can be by yourself. Han and Hyunjin, the two of you can stay here and keep an eye on the woods. We'll have our ear pieces in, so we can reach each other. If anyone needs anything, radio in. Han and Hyunjin, since you'll be here, you can radio us to let us know when we're close and lead our locations and everything. Sound good?"
A variety of mumbled responses filled the air. Changbin led the way out of the room, so the guys could get ready. Hyunjin stepped forward and plopped down in the chair in front of the computer. Behind him, Han squatted down to peer over his shoulder.
"I hope this isn't some sort of set-up," Han mumbled.
"If it is, we'll be able to see it and alert them before anything happens. Remember who this is for and why we're doing this to begin with. Is it true you nearly strangled that guy to death?"
"Oh, that?" Han scratched the back of his neck. "That was just a moment of weakness. The guy was being a dick and someone needed to put him in his place. Besides, he seemed to know something about Felix and I wasn't going to let it slide."
Hyunjin chuckled and continued clicking through the forest cameras. His eyes jumped from screen to screen. There was no way he was going to let the guys get hurt. His attentiveness wouldn't allow that to happen. While the pair continued to talk, the other guys geared up in the torture room.
Unfortunately, the secret service member Chan took care of earlier remained in the middle of the room. His upper half fell over his legs limp. His hand was a few inches away from the stump of an arm. The remaining stubs of his fingers bent forward lifelessly as they pressed against the concrete floor.
A large crimson puddle spread out beneath the metal chair. After Chan shattered his teeth and cut off the man's wrist, he didn't bother uncuffing him. He let the man slowly bleed to death in his chair.
Ignoring the body, Changbin handed everyone each a fully loaded hand-gun with a silencer on it. The added front length of the silencer made the guns a little awkward to conceal beneath their shirts, but they were crucial to have.
One-by-one, they took their pick from the variety of knives hanging off the walls. Glistening metal blades with metal handles. A few of the handles were wooden. The knife Lee Know picked up had a slightly curved blade. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chan picked up a butcher's knife. With a single hard chop, the sharpened blade would cut through the skin and windpipe with ease.
A rush of adrenaline filled him with the thought of it. To take a life was a mighty powerful thing. He stood back idly waiting for Seungmin and I.N to take their picks. Changbin took his time loading up his own hand-gun with bullets. Chan's foot tapped impatiently waiting for them to finish.
He was eager for his fun to begin.
