Chan didn't know what happened. There was gun fire and then the world shook beneath him. He remembered clutching Kiera's hand in his and then the two of them were thrown forward. At some point, their hands let go of each other. There was so much heat, Chan briefly remembered that it burnt his back.
When he hit the ground, his world went dark. When he woke up, his ears were ringing. There was blood soaking the front of his shirt. With gritted teeth, he jerked himself to his feet. His whole body ached, but he ignored it.
His balance was unsteady and he wobbled from side to side a bit. His eyes glanced up to where the white house was. There was a neon orange haze lingering in the air. The smell of gunpowder was overwhelming. He stumbled to one side and nearly hit the ground.
A steady stream of sweat trickled down the side of his forehead. He wiped it away and something stuck to his skin. Pulling his arm away, he glanced down to find ashes or was it dust? He brushed it off and glanced around the area.
Bodies were thrown in multiple different directions. There must have been about thirty different agents tagging along with Lucas. It looked like the depths of hell. Something brushed against his arm and he glanced up.
Snow?
He blinked and shook his head. No, not snow. It was too warm for snow. He cupped out an open hand. Whatever landed in his hand was warm. Too warm. He shook it off when he realized it was ashes. What the fuck just happened?
He stumbled along the area looking at bodies. He needed to find Kiera and get out of here before something happened to the two of them. He stopped in front of a body and sucked in a sharp breath. A large chunk of brick landed on someone's face and crushed it into the ground.
His stomach heaved. He assumed it was Kiera until he realized they were wearing dress shoes. Kiera had been wearing a pair of combat boots when they ran. He forced himself to take a deep breath and continue searching.
He weakly called out her name, but his voice was scratchy. Whatever was in the air, he must have inhaled some of it. It coated his tongue and plugged his sinuses. The back of his throat was itchy and he craved water. He coughed a few times and carried on.
A soft crunch came from beneath his foot. He looked down to see a hand beneath his shoe. He stumbled back and nearly lost his balance again. Lucas Wilson was finally dead.
The bombs caused everyone to go flying backwards. Lucas was thrown into the top of the white house fence. The top metal points pierced his stomach. They still continued to drip blood from where they entered his back. His body weight caused his body to slide down them.
Chan nearly hurled as he stumbled away. His eyes scanned the area more desperately. Bodies were everywhere, but he couldn't find Kiera's. Where was she?
He spun around and began walking in the other direction. He ignored the ashes that caused his skin to itch. He continued walking and scanning around until he finally found her. He stopped over her body and stared.
Part of him was terrified that she was dead, but when her chest rose and fell, some of his fear was erased. He bent down and scooped his arms beneath her limp body. He struggled, but managed to get her off the ground and up to his chest bridal style.
He ignored her injuries and began walking over to a section of missing fence. There were police sirens in the distance. They either heard the bombs go off or someone alerted them.
Kiera shifted in his arms. She weakly turned her head and glanced up at him. The orange haze caused him to look ethereal. A smile tugged on the ends of her lips. "Channie?" She croaked.
He glanced down at the sound of her voice. "Hi, baby." His heart warmed knowing that she was still alive. "Don't worry about anything, I've got you."
"I don't feel good."
"I know. We're going to get you fixed up and back to normal. Don't worry about a thing, alright? I'll keep you safe."
"Promise?"
"I promise."
She let out a sigh of relief and let her eyes slip closed again. Her head ached terribly. She must have slammed it up against something when she was blown backwards. She reached a hand up to the front of Chan's shirt and gripped the fabric.
His steady breathing filled her ears. Unconsciousness tugged at her again. Peacefully, she let herself drift back into the darkness. Chan continued heading for the road. He didn't know where to go and he couldn't find his burner phone.
His own head was starting to feel slightly fuzzy. He tilted slightly before he regained his balance. He readjusted Kiera and kept walking. Walking up towards the sidewalk, a white van slowly began to pull up.
Chan's vision was slowly starting to fade. He tightened his grip on Kiera's body. No matter what happened, he wasn't going to let her go.
The van door slid open and Chan glanced up. Lee Know hurried towards him and grabbed Kiera from his arms. The two didn't have time to exchange words. The moment Lee Know had Kiera in his grasp, Chan dropped to his knees. The world tilted and he began to slip unconscious.
Lee Know cursed beneath his breath and yelled for I.N and Seungmin to help him. The two scurried out of the vehicle. Lee Know returned and shoved Kiera towards Felix and Han. They grabbed her wrists and jerked her further into the van.
Lee Know went back to help Seungmin and I.N. The three of them managed to wrangle Chan into the vehicle. Before the door was shut, Changbin took off flying down the road.
They still weren't out of the woods.
