! TW: Harsh language !

"And that's the story." She concluded with a playful smirk. She shuffled her coat off, and you noticed how muscular she was. "..ah. I see." You tried not to stare too hard at her scars, since it would be rude.

"So..do you not think I should do this?" You said, thunder rumbling from outside the window. Markceline let out a harsh sigh. "Kid," You hated how she kept calling you kid. It felt like a mockery since you were no longer as young as you once were. "Wally had me mutilated and nearly killed for giving him the wrong data statistics, [name]." She said sternly, ripping off her eyepatch, revealing her blind eye covered by a scar. From behind her, lightning had struck outside and illuminated her face.

"If he finds out what you're doing, you'll be met with unthinkable torture." She pressed herself against her desk and leaned closer to you with wide eyes.

"Wally is a monster, [name]. He will do anything to hurt others, and you were never an exception." She tried to convince you not to do this, but you wouldn't budge. You already had the information you needed. Wally was, indeed, a monster. You didn't need to be reminded.

[Dr. Darling's POV]

As I stood outside the door, listening to the conversation, I felt a pit in my stomach grow. Was [name] really trying to run away? Did they really think they would get out of here?

I held back the urge to storm inside and rip apart Markceline. Finish the job my experiment failed to do.

I couldn't hear the conversation anymore, I heard everything I needed to hear. I backed up from the door, nearly tripping over myself. 'Don't leave me.' I thought to myself. 'I can't fathom the thought of losing you.' I had to put a stop to this, but no. Not yet. I want to see how far they can get.

[narration]

"You can't win, ребенок*" She scolded you, narrowing her hollow eyes. You scoffed and rolled your eyes. "Markceline, I'm sorry, but I won't change my mind." You got up from your seat and began to walk out of the office. Suddenly, you felt Markceline grab your wrist and whirl you around. "[Name]. I'm begging you, spare your life." She had so much fear in her eyes. You could tell she was worried for you.

Afterall, she knows how it feels to be punished by Wally. But what she didn't know was the torture of forcing yourself to stay by his side, when he has no one. When Markceline worked for him, Wally still had Ophelia and Julie. But left before any of the family's hardships. The ones you had stuck around for.

She doesn't know the feeling of having to bribe your way into life. She worked for him voluntarily. She was picked out of a college. She had the chance to transfer, to get out. To leave.

You don't get that.

"Ms. Whitetail," You spoke harshly. You yanked your arm away, breaking from her grasp. "Listen hon, I have been stuck in this shitpit for over a decade." You felt sick having to repeat this over and over again to everyone, including yourself. "I haven't seen my family in years. I don't even know if I have a village to run back to. Wally trapped me here. I know he's a monster." You paused and smirked with a sly look.

"But I can be a monster too."

You walked into your room later that night, looking at yourself in the mirror. You still had on Wally's lab coat. I started smelling more like you, and less like him. You were claiming it for yourself.

You took off your coat and work clothes and put on a pair of shorts and an old shirt. You walked to the bedside table and opened the drawer. Inside were the names of all your village neighbors, so you'd remember them in hopes you see them again one day. Beside it was a pocket knife you had stolen from a dead test subject's belongings your first night here.

It was the knife you used to mark down a tally mark for each night you were in the factory.

You held up the knife and marked a small slit into the wall. "Day 4,001." You mumbled to yourself, taking a step back to look at the wall. You put the knife back into the drawer and turned off your bedside light.

You fell into your uncomfortable bed, but you were so used to it that you didn't care. You let yourself close your eyes, and fall asleep.
