39. Cass' sacrifice

That was the last time we would see the bunker. Sam moved in with Eileen and Dean, Jack, Cass and I moved into a real house.

"I get the boxes from the basement," I said and set off on my way while they loaded the Impala.
When I saw Castiel standing in the room 7B, I frowned. "Cass? What are you doing here?"
"I cannot move."
"What? Why not?" I was totally confused.
"Billie is doing this. She doesn't want me to run away." "Wait? Billie? The reaper?" He nodded.
"Hey, what is going on?" I asked carefully.
He threw me a sad smile.
"When you were dying, I made a deal, to save you."
"You what?"
"The price was my life. She gave me a few more years but now, she wants me to pay the debts."
No, this couldn't be true. But as I spotted Billie, I knew it was. I instantly raised my hand and tried to ban her with a spell, but I wasn't able to do that. I forgot that my powers were completely gone. "No, Cass. We'll find a way. We have already come this far. I will not give up on you." My voice trembled. "Sara..."
"No! I can't live without you. You are my best friend. I need you." Tears formed in my eyes. "I am so grateful for everything you've done for me," Cass replied with a smile. He had also tears in his eyes. "You always supported me, when no one other did. You are my family." I wiped away my tears but immediately new ones were falling down.
"No. Not after all we've been through together. All the monsters are gone, we can live a normal life now. But I don't want a life without you. I'll kill Billie, I'll..." Cass shook his head.
"You can't. That's not possible."
"But I won't give you up. How am I supposed to do that? I can't, Cass."
"Hey, where is Cass?" Dean shouted as he walked to us. When he saw that I was crying, he angrily turned to Billie. "What did she do?"
I looked at him. "He will die. Cass will die."
Dean stared at Cass, his face blank. He quickly took me in his arms. "But how?"
I closed my eyes. Why couldn't we just live a normal life? This wasn't fair.
"Why did you do that?" I cried and tried to pull away.
A tear fell down Cass' face.
"Because of the same reason, I gave up my powers for you. I would do everything for you. I would sacrifice
everything for you, without hesitation. I love you, Sara."
My sobbing became louder as I hugged Cass tightly.
"I love you too Cass. Thank you for everything. I will never forget you. Never."
I kissed his cheek and then let go. He smiled at me.
"Goodbye Dean. You are a very good friend and person. And goodbye Sara. Take good care of each other."
Billie took a step to him and touched his shoulder.
Immediately, he was surrounded by a dark liquid which took him away. Billie threw me one last look and
disappeared.
I collapsed to my knees. He was gone. My breathing got faster and faster and new tears kept streaming down my cheek. Dean knelt next to me and put his arms around me. "You have to calm down a bit. Breathe slowly and deeply." I tried to do as he said but it didn't work.
"I can't," I whispered and hid my face in his jacket.
"Hey, look at me. Breathe in and out. In... and out."
Slowly, my breath became normal again.
"Thank you," I whispered. Dean gently wiped away my tears.
"I loved him so much. And now he's gone. Forever. We will never see him again, Dean."
"I know," he said quietly. He looked like he was about to cry, too. I closed my eyes as another tear fell down. I had never cried this much in all my life.
"He gave his life for me. If it hadn't been for me, he would still be alive. So, it's my fault. Again. It's always my fault. Why is everyone I love always getting killed because of me?" Dean's look became even more worried.
He wrapped his arms around me.
"That's not true. Don't blame yourself, please. He made his decision. You had nothing to do with that. You can't save everyone."
I nodded and stood up. I wished that this was just a stupid dream and that I would wake up tomorrow. I would see Cass and everything would be alright.
But unfortunately, this was reality.
This was my life, my life without Castiel now.
