Alethea's POV:
I screamed, my voice swallowed by the immense, dark void around me. My body plummeted through the blackness, the rush of air pressing against me, urging me down deeper. I felt the sensation of falling, overwhelming and frantic, my eyes desperately searching for any trace of light. Then, as if my silent pleas had been heard, a shift occurred. The darkness began to dissipate, and in its place emerged a vast field of daffodils, their vibrant yellow heads bobbing gently in the wind.
I landed on my knees with a soft thud, the cool grass brushing against my skin, tickling me, but I didn't care. My gaze swept over the field, my heart still racing as I tried to make sense of this unexpected place. The daffodils swayed in rhythm with the breeze, filling the air with the essence of spring, opening their petals to a warmth that seemed to radiate from the very earth beneath me. The wind, free and gentle, tangled in my white hair, sending strands of it dancing around my face.
Where am I?
The field was ordinary, yet it struck me as eerily familiar—too familiar. But try as I might, I couldn't recall ever being here. I inhaled deeply, the fresh scent of the flowers grounding me. With a shaky breath, I pushed myself to my feet, but before I could even take a single step, a burst of bright light suddenly erupted before me, forcing me to stumble back. I squinted against the glare, and when it faded, I found myself frozen, mouth agape, at the sight before me.
It was unreal—shocking, even. My mind reeled, struggling to process the vision. I blinked rapidly, looking away, only to find that it was still there. When I dared to look again, my breath caught. It wasn't just the creature standing in front of me; it was something far more... profound.
My brain stuttered, unable to process the sight. The light seemed to linger in my eyes, blinding me with its intensity. My heart pounded as I took a hesitant step forward, my gaze locking with glowing, slitted eyes. The creature before me—its scales gleamed in shades of blue, shimmering in the ambient light—towered above me, yet I didn't feel fear. How could I? Those eyes, they weren't threatening. They weren't cold. They were warm, welcoming—a warmth that felt strangely familiar, as if I had known it all my life.
Before I could even think, my hand instinctively reached out toward the dragon, a silent call that felt as natural as breathing. But just as my fingers were about to make contact, a blinding light erupted once again, and in the blink of an eye, the field, the dragon, and the warmth vanished, leaving me tumbling back into the same abyss I had been in before.
"It was the same voice that led us out of the fire, I'm sure of it!"
I snapped out of my thoughts as Bloom's voice reached my ears, pulling me back to the present. We were walking through the courtyard, and she was excitedly talking about a dream she'd had. I didn't feel like contributing, not when I had no idea what was happening to me. I wasn't ready to admit it, but deep down, I knew that the dragon I had seen in my dream was far from coincidental.
